everytime we talk about orbital, we say how good in sides
are or the green and brown album... but we also say that the
altogether is a weak album.... well I am now with it... and
I would like to ask the expert:
why is this album not good? cos I kind of enjoy it

I haven't heard The Altogether that much.
I like Technologicque Park from the xXx soundtrack. They
were in the movie too, I was totally shocked. I had no idea,
but I recognized those lights on their heads :)

I can enjoy the altogether too, but compared with the other
orbital work, this is their weakest album.
It sounds too poppy and not original imo.
and I miss that special orbital touch.

There's a few exceptions on the album.

Ive always enjoyed it, it just doesnt seem to have much of a
theme. Like insides.. that was a overall powerfull
electronic record.. its great, so are the others. the
altogether is a good one, but its not as good because of
this fact.

At first I didnt like it, but now I really like it. Compared
to other orbital though it's weak, but by itself it's a
really good album =) The 2nd song on the 1st disc has a
little halcyon feel, kinda sorta maybe.

Personally I think that Insides was the last good release
but then again I haven't listened to middleofnowhere and the
altogether that much. I discovered autechre and afx and
kinda abandonned orbital for I while...

Agreed with the general jist of where this conversation is
going: Better than some of the pretentious crap that was
being served in 2001, but as an Orbital album, lacking in
the album and ideas department...

But let me bring up one more point: This was Orbital's last
album with FFRR (London Records), who had signed them to a
six album contract way back in 1990 (the year of "Chime").
Orbital had been wanting to get away from them for some
time, to concentrate more on what THEY wanted to do, namely
movie soundtracks. So "The Altogether" can be viewed as a
two-fingered salute to a record company who really looked at
Orbital as a hit machine, which they gladly fulfilled, than
album-by-album artists. Poppy stuff, which in view of the
other artists also with London, is basically Orbital saying:
"Hey, we'll give you your hits, but we'll do it OUR way."

My 2 cents on one of most important and commercially-viable
acts of the last 10 years. Here's best wishes for ten
more...

O=w00t!
