Cabbog,

You either need 56K or broadband to get it online, and
installing the adaptor is the easiest thing ever. All you
do is pop off the plate underneath the GCN and then pop the
adaptor in. That's basically it, nothing else to it.
There's no software that needs to be installed with the
adaptor.

I don't know if that's the case so much for me, three games
already have online play stricken from them in America:
Timesplitters 2, Marvel vs Capcom 2, and Auto Modelista.
Once Final Fantasy XI comes out I'll be happy, but these 3rd
party companies need to make an online network for America
*AHEM* Capcom!
