Scary, for 5 seconds...

I was just listening to a new track I'd done. And about
halfway through a childs voice said, "Someday I'll go to
heaven, Jesus said I would..."

I thought, what the fuck? I didn't put this there... a few
moments later I realised I had accidentally unpaused
musicmatch somehow and started some Alec Empire in the
background. Ho hum.

As long as it sounds right, of course.

it is the lucky shit like that that pushes people to keep
making music through thick and thin, keep it in and keep the
story, that is great

he'd get sued if Alec Empire ever found out. (if he doesn't
get permission to use the sample, that is)

Yes, It fitted really well. The timing was perfect too. I
was tempted to put it in, but like he said, alec could
probably sue me (although, he himself, or rather nic endo,
may of sampled it from somewhere else- it certainly doesn't
sound like either of them) and as this is a track I'm going
to include on my demo cd-r it's probably not a wise move ;)

I also just don't sample (unless remixing) on principle.
It's all the anti-plaigarism stuff I got drilled into me at
uni.

Thinking about it, I may just get a kid to say it and record
them. It's not a long enough/unique passage (and besides, I
think it's from a popular prayer or hymn) that I could be
sued, so long as it's not the same actual sample. Fun fact
legal fans: Lousie Wener used this technique to nick half a
line of a beachboy's lyric due to legal difficulties getting
the rights to do it...

Thinking about it, I'm going to record myself saying it and
play around with the pitch etc. to make it sound like a
child talking...

he can only sue you if you make a profit from the
recording......as long as you don't sell your cds, or try to
get a record deal with that track, you're fine

keep it in if you're not selling it

mistakes are amazing... i recorded a tune from PC to tape..
over the wire and somehow got these weird creaky door sounds
that totally work with the tune... i reckon i must have
taped over some sounds.
I did the same when taping some Dublin electroinica over
some squarepusher and the residual squarepousher under the
new beats sounds amazing!! I love creepy stuff.. throbbing
gristel, whitehuse, BoC, chaos AD

Mr. Empire wont sue u for coptright stuff. WTF, he is part
of the Atari Teenage Riot!!! And the record label is his
property too!

But if I wanted to use it on a demo tape it would be for
personal gain... Still unabomber has a point, Alec isn't the
sort of chap to go in for petty suing. It'd harm his, "don't
give a..." image ;)

Alec Empire rips people off. Track 10 on his new album?
'Twist the knife (slowly)' by Naplam Death. Try it. Death
Favors The Enimy? rip off.

I love Alec Empire but y'know...

I was listening to Intelligence & Sacrifice CD 2 last night.
A lot of it was pretty weak. I mean, it sounded like the
stuff I do when I just screw around in audiomulch... just
making random noise for the hell of it. Still, CD 1 is good.

Agree.
CD 1 is far better

Download 'Twist the knife (slowly)' by Napalm Death and
compare it to 'Death favours the enemy' by Alec Empire. Then
look at the note on his CD that says 'All sound made by us'
and you will think a little dif towards him. I dig the guy
but some of the things he does is like 'hmmm........'

I know, I'd noticed that 'sound made by us' on the CD. Esp.
as some of the stuff is done on turntables and I'm sorry,
but you are using someone else's sound even if you're
scratching it (unless he could be arsed to have custom
scratch records cut- whihc I doubt).
