I've not really listened to a lot of what the drum n' bass scene has produced, but I was watching MTV and saw Shy FX. These guys seem to be quite well respected in the scene, but their music stinks.
'Shake your body' was drum n' bass by numbers with a crappy female vocal, and their new one is a carbon copy of it, only with more horns thrown in.
Seriously, I hope drum n' bass has better to offer than this. I don't see why these guys aren't a laughing stock.

Well I like a few tracks on it. Yeah it's clubby, like he just done a bit of a pop album. One track starts with a voice looping yeah gently and turns into some great drum n bass but nothing spectacular. The album seems to stay on one level all the way thru. I can't compare it to his other stuff tho.

I'm no big fan of vocal d&b myself but shake yer body wasn't that bad! A lot of it is in the lower frequencies so won't sound too hot through yer TV. He has done a wicked new tune with T Power and Rodney P called "Ruff Like Me" or something under the London Republic label which is very good. Vinyl only though I think.

I was quite enjoying it the first time I heard it on the radio, but I got sick of it after about the second listen. Way too simple, nothing to keep me interested for any period of time.
The new one has some guy called MC Skibadee (sp?) scatting all over it. And more bland female vocals.

A good d&b MC can really lift the set and get the crowd hyped... however these are very few and far between, usually they just get wrecked and ruin it. It winds me up.

Imo, drum & bass went to crap after 1996. 1995&1996 drum&bass was amazing and then its like the whole style changed and started going in reverse it got simpler, in a bad way.
Some good d&b: Subtropic- absolute black. Moving shadow compilation Trans central connection-carlito&addiction, neil trix, etc. Artcore 1 compilation. Metalheadz platinumbreaks 1,2. adam f- colours.

basic hardstep is flooding the dancefloors here in france and that's a pity because the few good d'n'bass producers like radiobomb, interlope, subtiles record artists, etc... are totally ingored by the kids.
Like spikee dragon I prefer oldschool jungle of shy fx & co, back in mid-nineties.
Pomme de terre : your joke make me laugh a lot ;) I often go off when a mc's coming upon the mic on a d'n'b mix...

yeah Solaris was a phenomenal letdown. It created a nice vibe, sorta.. Aside from a couple of strong tracks, (i.e. Terminus, all the ambient stuff.. ) it was quite weak though. The male diva vocals ruined it, sorry.. I hate to make it so harsh but seriously. Even the house tracks would've been fine if it wasn't for that.
