Which do you prefer?
Aphex's ambient music or Brian Eno's ambient stuff?
I think it's kind of a tie, they both make increadbly beautiful ambient tunes.
Opinions?

afx -- more engaging. then again, by eno's definition, that makes it less ambient. so objectively, eno; subjectively, afx.

Which do you prefer? I don't know, but I listen to Eno more often.
A proper ambient collection isn't complete without both, in my opinion.

Eno is much more varied and interesting and like Whaley I listen to Eno more. But that certainly doesn't mean I think that Aphex' stuff is inferior in any way. The two aren't really comparable.

i agree with astrid..
but remember.. aphex only has two discs out of true ambient ..and how many does brian eno have?
personally, i've been listening to eno a lot more than saw2 lately ...just fits my mood more

i think eno had very set ideas when he made his ambient music - from whati i've read quite theoretical ideas whilst aphex early ambient works were post club chill out music that had more to do with detroit tchno and new york and chicago house and garage - but slowed down and more spacious and echoey..

yes.. brian eno's ambient is much more focused and theory based...just read the liner notes of discreet music.. it was basically his first true ambient cd ..and he outlines his ideas and inspiration for it as well as some of the techniques he used
lengthy liner notes describing the albums concept usually indicate more acedemic intentions
as you probably know aphex has claimed that his ambient music (im reffering more to saw2) was an attempt at recreating dream sounds..but he's never really gone into much depth about his ideas behind it..
a lot of his ambient stuff seems somewhat eno inspired anyway
