I've had this for a while. Since Pitchfork just reviewed it I thought I'd
post my 2 cents.

First off it doesn't deserve the high rating they gave it
but with the eighties currently being the hottest thing
since the seventies (or was it the sixties?) I suppose they
felt obliged.

However, "Get on up and do it again" by Suzy Q is almost
worth the cost of the disk. It's the catchiest dance tune I
ever heard. It is dangerously catchy. I lost hours of sleep
in August because it was running through my head for weeks.

There are some other ace tracks that I won't mention because
I'm lazy and the beer is going to my head.

The rest of the disk isn't as good but listened to with an
open mind it's interesting and gives you a clue where
Autechre got some of their ideas, and if so why their stuff
still has a groove even when it's irrepressibly weird.

I'd give it 5.5/10 because some of the tracks make my skin
crawl they're so fucking bad.

Mantronix strikes me as lame. King of the Beats is a
shocking misnomer. Pfft!

well, he did deserve that title at the time....but yeah,
time hasn't been that kind to him...

which I guess is what you'd expect with dance music...what's
cutting edge one minute is passe the next; that constant
invention of the new is what keeps it fresh....
