Chris Cunningham Retrospective

I went to see this last Sunday in Bristol - it was
fantastic. I'm sure most of you have seen all or most of his
stuff - i had probably seen 3/4. Nothing could have prepared
me for Flex however! Not that it was "really" sick or
anything, i guess i just wasn't expecting full penetration
and a man punching woman as soon as i'd woken up! I've read
rdj did the sound for it - surely the sound came after the
film was made... or do you reckon they worked together at
the same time?

chris's video had sexual penetration and some guy hitting a
woman? can you explain?

Yes, it is standard sexual practise to perform sex with
penetration but you can only hit women with their consent.

I am planning to go to the November 3rd show in los angeles.
I really want to see the monkey drummer video. Did they show
that?

Yes, they had monkey drummer, right at the end! It's only
short, just about two minutes i'd say. A clever little idea,
but no variety (took me a while to spot the drum stick on
its nob!) I resisted downloading flex, drummer and a few
others i'd not seen, made for a few surprises.

Amonbrune, i'm sure there's somewhere you can watch flex,
maybe dl it from kazaa or something. Unmistakable Aphex
soundscapes, alongside innovative copulation and violence -
superb.

Hopefully in LA they'll have a sound system better than the
standard set up of a 1974 Ford Capri that they had in
Bristol. Quiet, fuzzy, no bass, shit.

Wasn't all about the music i spose

chris cunningham said that he makes music on his spare time
in a recent interview, it would be neat to see what kind of
music he makes

yeah, i've also read that he's jealous of rdj and sp etc cos
they can be creative wherever they want, in their room or on
the go with a laptop.

i bet he's got lots of tips n tricks from ole ricky j and
tommy j! imagine the three of them all locked away with nasa
strength computers....

The soundtrack is a mix of tracks from SAW2, the song Perc#6
from the "...Or Some Computer Music" compilation (which
sucks), and some custom sounds.

Richard was going to do more with the soundtrack, but didn't
due to time constraints.
