You know why I think people are harsh on Confield? I think
it's because it's very alien. It contrasts all other music,
even IDM, very well. It's got beautiful chords, complex beats, and first-rate sequencing, does it not? The rhythms and harmonies are lightyears ahead of anything I've heard prior to Confield. It's really something for Autechre. I think Pen Expers is a bit weak, but only in comparison to the rest of it. Great record, man!
I originally posted the above in a thread that I didn't figure anyone was going to read. Sorry for this if it's an inconvenience. :)

Ehh, I thought it would be helpful to people who don't like Confield to see why I do, and probably why others do. Sorry if I wasted your time, but I thought this was a good post.

I wouldn't call it light-years ahead of its time in either rhythm or harmony

Ehh okay, so no one's on my side. :) But to me, it's very far-out stuff and I'll always give it a listen :)
My biggest complaint is the silence at the start of VI Scose Poise :)

I'm on yr side buddy, Confield is a work of genius just like everything else those two put out. A masterwork unparalled by anything in the music indistry today.. beautiful, emotional, intellectual, and just physically fun to listen to.. right on spooky.

to the people that dont like confield, listen to it and try to appreciate all the palpable textures that the sounds create. ive never heard sounds you can almost feel this way out of any other album quite like this one.
my 2 cents.

I listen to my records at comfortable levels. I find that when it's too loud, certain sounds lose focus. It's like watching TV too close, I guess. But anyway, I haven't heard anything there, and it bothers me a bit.
Confield has a lot of action; and I think that there is emotion behind it. The chords are powerful. Great harmonies!

i like the virtual silence at the beginning, it makes the first hit of the steel ball thing that much better, just one of the quirks that make the album great.
