You cannot talk about John Leslie's television career without talking about his women. His image is as dependent on his reputation as a ladykiller as on his skill in front of the camera. John Leslie talks to Monica McDermott A charmer with a taste for champagne, his high profile and good looks have offered Leslie access to the most beautiful women in showbiz and he has never been slow to make the most of those links. He appeared at the premiere of Braveheart with an Irish beauty queen on his arm - only too aware of the need to cultivate a certain image. And he has never been unduly bothered by the string of kiss-and-tell exposes about him - including numerous one night stands, very public pursuits of attractive women, and even an embarrassingly unsuccessful attempt to seduce two lesbians. His early shyness and lack of self-confidence stemmed from being bullied over his height at James Gillespie's High School in Edinburgh. He once said: "I was a late starter in terms of understanding women and developing relationships with them. "A woman could walk in now and I could be immediately smitten. You know when it's right almost instantly. I think the love side can develop but you have to feel lust straight away, don't you?" After a year as a chorister, he left school to study music and after a stint as a DJ in Denmark, started his TV career. At first he was turned down for roles for being too tall, but in 1989, he joined Blue Peter which he hosted with Diana Louise Jordan, Yvette Fielding and later Anthea Turner. He said: "Although I've never consciously set out to have an image, I did have to be aware of it when I was on Blue Peter. I told them there were no skeletons in my closet.
