Messageboard Feature Suggestion

offline Joyrex from watmm.com (United States) on 2002-10-23 15:40 [#00414434]
Points: 1389 Status: Lurker

How about making the "last changed" text for each post a
link to the last post in the thread - considering how
frequently messages update on this board, that would save
users following a thread from having to scroll down through
all the stuff they have already read to get to what's new.

offline titsworth from Washington, DC (United States) on 2002-10-23 15:53 [#00414458]

a great suggestion but i don't think it's practical at the
moment, what with the whole site still being developed..

offline Jarworski from The Grove (United Kingdom) on 2002-10-23 16:09 [#00414487]
Points: 10836 Status: Lurker

That IS a good suggestion. Especially on those threads that
have more than 250 posts. Dunno how quickly it could be
knocked together, anyone?

offline Ophecks from Nova Scotia (Canada) on 2002-10-23 16:14 [#00414493]

There's so much excess space to the right, more than enough
room for lots of crap. I always wanted a ''last reply
by:''username'' thingy.

offline Gubb on 2002-10-23 16:15 [#00414496]

...or you could just change the settings to display the
newest message first. seems to work fine and has about the
same effect.

Keep your eyes peeled for new mb features in the near
future...

The minimal nature of this mb is part of it's charm I
think...I certainly prefer this sort of interface to mbs
than most others I see out there...it's clean, uncluttered &
just plain works...

hehe...I'm such a fanboy...:)..

great suggestion, i always thought it would be a practical
feature.

another suggestion would be to make it easier to know which
person replies to who. something in the like of the dead
(rip) warp mb.

is....

i know, im a wanker..

Gubb: what if you wanted to read the thread that started the
whole mess in the first place? You'd have to do the same
thing. Using the suggestion, you'd have the option of both.

Jand: Simple is nice...I remember the good old days when
messageboards were just nothing more than a glorified
guestbook - no user accounts, email features, etc. Just
posts.

offline roygbivcore from Joyrex.com, of course! on 2002-10-23 22:56 [#00415016]

hmm i've got some suggestions :x hehehehe the only person
who MIGHT understand why i'm giggling would be phobia, heh,
and maybe jand if i explained that i know some of the new
features that are in the works... it will definately be a
new 'record'

muahahahahaha

What about a feature where you can vote for a topic to be
closed? All theses dumb topics that keep opening. Maybe 5 -
10 different people could vote for it to be closed
and it would. That way we wouldn't have to rely on the Mods
so much.

offline Junktion from Northern Jutland (Denmark) on 2002-10-24 02:38 [#00415182]

I want a feature where you can use you points for something
on ther site

offline Junktion from Northern Jutland (Denmark) on 2002-10-24 02:38 [#00415183]

or even better - when reaching a surtan number of points you
receive a bonus price/gift

That would just encourage spamming.

offline Junktion from Northern Jutland (Denmark) on 2002-10-24 02:44 [#00415186]
Points: 9713 Status: Lurker | Followup to dmise: #00415185

maybe not...if there was like some anti-spam function

offline giginger from Milky Beans (United Kingdom) on 2002-10-24 02:45 [#00415187]
Points: 26326 Status: Lurker | Followup to Junktion: #00415186 | Show recordbag

Now how would that work?

offline Junktion from Northern Jutland (Denmark) on 2002-10-24 02:47 [#00415189]
Points: 9713 Status: Lurker | Followup to giginger: #00415187

well...for example...same message repeated twice in a topic,
gives you 10 minus point...
and...if 10 or more people votes (and that would include a
post-voting function) that a surtan post is stupid, also 10
points minus (or a deleted post)

offline giginger from Milky Beans (United Kingdom) on 2002-10-24 02:51 [#00415193]
Points: 26326 Status: Lurker | Followup to Junktion: #00415189 | Show recordbag

That may still increase the traffic. If someone is
determined anough to get loads of posts they will keep
posting. How many people are going to be bothered enough to
cintinually vote someone as a spam poster. Plus the fact the
site is free already is good enough. Can't ask for free
stuff for taking up bandwidth can we? I think Phob said it's
$100 a month for this site. The points are really just an
indicator of how long you've been here.

Not so much a stupid thought. You were just thinking in a
different way. Sorry if I sounded like I was ranting there.
Didn't mean to.

How about instead of having the mods determine what we can
and can't see (closing a thread down because they
disapprove of it) there could be a way that the individual
user could decide if they want to sort of 'block' themself
from seeing a particular topic. In other words, the topic
doesn't get closed down so nobody can see it (unless of
course it's a particularly offensive and/or pointless
topic), instead the user can choose to lock that topic only
from themselves. So, if I see a topic like "Aphex Twin
Sucks", instead of waiting for a mod to close it down and
then nobody can discuss in it, I can just select "block this
topic" or some such, which would prevent me from seeing it
anymore in the list, but to anyone else it still is there.

Do non-paying members get to see the pics that paying
members post?

If so, then does that mean nobody's donated to Phobia? I
hope that's not the case, 'cause this server is expensive.

Another suggestion: maybe have the title of a topic that's
been posted to, say, within the past 5 or 10 minutes, turn
italic.

I'd like a feature where it tells you who was the last
person to post, that way you could see if it has been
updated, It's annoying to go through an entire thread to
realise that your post is at the end, and none has replied
yet

i would like to punish people who change their avatars,
cause its fucking my brain up. its so much easier for me to

avatar i forget who they are.. it sucks.

It's partially me (the blinding glow) but the character is
from the US version of Hot Shots Golf 3 on the PS2 (Minna No
Golf in Japan, and Everyone's Golf in the UK). Kinda looked
like me, so I said, what the hell :)
