here is your oppertunity!

Bremzen and me are going to 'host' an evening of live
electronics in a free jazzclub (Sju Huis) in Utrecht, the
Netherlands..

we are looking for people in the Netherlands to
invite to come and play.

the setup would be like this: you bring your equipment, we
decide on the night who plays with who and for how long and
there you go!

only electronics allowed, no acoustic instruments.

at the moment we don't know the exact date, it would be
somewhere in january or february (2003..).

if you're interested, contact me at
qrter@@quickhosts.com and we'd like to hear some of
your stuff in mp3-form.. don't worry, any style is allowed,
as long as you like improvising and playing
together
..

hope to hear from you.. :)

Damn, I'd really like to do that, but I have no way of
getting there.

What do you mean, "yes, playing together is the key"? -
haven't you heard Jazz ;)

I'd love to do something like that...

ah but you haven't played at this club before.. ;)

we played there together with the acoustic jazz people..
that was quite awful.. everybody playing at their loudest,
nobody listening to anybody else, nobody giving way..

thats why it'll be only electronics, and only people we
invite.. :)

wellllll, we already played at an improv session there
before and it was a complete MESS. everybody on stage trying
to wank off their one man show, whilst qrter and i every
once and a while blurted out some samples...
no fun that evening

I know, I was ribbing. People always say it sounds like
they're playing different stuff, but you're right. I imagine
it must be the one of hardest types of music to play :)

it is man

when i took my jazz ensembles last year, it was like...
christ

everyone just comes up with thier own part, and they have to
compliment each other.

i must say im glad im finished with those classes.

wasnt my thing at all.

im not one for on the spot kind of stuff. i like to take my
time, plan it out etc.

but not putting jazz down. just not my bag

about jazz playing styles, that's one thing i love about the
metal band Meshuggah. they use a lot of polyrhythmics in
their songs, which adds for an incredibly complex and
unusual sound. bizarre time signatures too. if you're
feeling daring, download the song "Future Breed Machine" or
"Rational Gaze" by Meshuggah

Some local guys were talking about doing a drum machine
circle. you know like hippie drum circles but with drum
machines. But my thoughts are that unless there was one
person in charge of running the sound board and everyones
mix it would end up being a huge volume competition and end
up sucking alot.

local is california.

dude, what about like, an online drum circle? one person
could put a beat down for like 2 minutes, email it to some
one else, they put beats down, email it, etc :D pretty cool,
i think

that would actually be possible.. could do the same thing
with any samples, really..

Okay, I'll be waiting for the email.
That drum circle thing is cool too.
Emailing things through and stuff.
I prefer that above the goodluck-chainletters.
Does this have the same construction? when you sent it to
eight people you get a record deal??

Though I make electronic music, I'm not able to play live (I
just use sortware, have no hardware), but I'll be there for
sure. Please keep me informed.

You can still play live w/o hardware (apart from a mouse)
just use re-birth :)

indeed, but the style you get with using Re-birth is not
exactly the style I like, but I still have to check out
Ableton, which seems like a nice software package to play
live with.

qrter and i use cubase, works ok. you can drop samples in a
large loop, play around with effects, or with a reaktor
patch... it's fun, and you can go on for hours and hours:)

I'll have a look at Cubase, see if I can figure it out
before january/february/march.

mm.. cubase is very good.. at first, it seems kind of
complex, but yoú should get the hang of it quite quickly..

but you can use anything you like, just as long as you can
add/remove samples etc..
