Two of my favorite Autechre songs, which one do you like
better? drane2 is my personal favorite, sounds like a
trumpet going down the drain in a rubber bathtub. They're
both excellent though..

I didn't like either one of them umtil recently when i
started to like Drane. still don't particularly care for
its sequel.

I like both; they finish their respective albums perfectly.

That's because you're still listening to uncle Jesse and the
Rippers. Their 15 minutes is sooo over.

Peel Sessions.

Track three on my peel sessions cd is labeled "drone" on the
back of the case. Everyone always referred to a song called
"drane" on the peel sessions record, so I asked them if they
weren't taking about "drone". They told me that "such a
track doesn't exist" to which I replied, "surely it does,
I'm looking at the title right now". Everyone ran to their
record collections to check, then came back to reassure each
other that they were right, it was indeed called "drane".
Even Phobiazero told me the correct spelling was "drane".
Do I have a misprint? Does anyone else have the "drone"
version? These eyes don't lie.

it's written drOne on my copy, and every copy ive ever seen.
but if you check on warprecords.com, it's written drAne.
very strange...

hmm.. I've heard about this controversy.. I always thought
they were both DrAne. Pretty sure it's that way on the case
but unfortunately I don't have it handy. btw, cabbog, don't
diss jessie and the Rippers! Just kidding I hate them too
and always have.. I just like certain persons associated
with them.. :)

About 4 minutes into drane 2 the Heavens open and the
springy bouncy slinky angels start bouncing down a glowing
pearl staircase to comfort the lonely trumpeter.

Cab, isn't your icon from a time-life book on crazy people?
Like, it shows weirder and weirder pictures of cats as the
artist goes crazy?

It would be funny if you went slowly insane and changed your
icons in that sequence... :-)

case with me, doesn't matter.

i like these topics btw, gets me to listening to stuff i
haven't heard in a while. i'm listening to draon right now,
will move onto part 2 in a mo... i'll let yall know my
opinion.

The artist's name was Louis Wain and yes, as he
progressively became more and more mentally ill, his
pictures became more spastic and abstract -- I didn't know
he was featured in a Time-Life book though.. Do you have
any more information for me?

Fun Facts about that book:

- it's called "The Mind"

- it was in my grandmother's house when I was a kid

- a detail from another painting in it was featured on the
cover of Van Halen's Fair Warning album

- This book and its companion, The Body, smell medicinal,
contain many disturbing facts and images, and colored my
youthful view of the world more than I'd like them to have

mine says drone
kind of makes sense since there's a drone in there that song
whoops drane 2 so badly.

Thanks, I'll have to do a search for that sometime soon.

Other songs depicting celestial summits :
Coil - Batwings(A Limnal Hymn)
Cyclobe - Replaced by his Constellation

-- I highly recommend these both. Two of my favorite songs
from two of my favorite artists.

Actually, that was what I was reffering to yesterday (the
Van Dahl)...

I remember those books as well, fleetmouse! "The Mind" also
went into depth about Van Gogh's plunge into madness, which
is probably why I got confused as to the painting's
origins...

Well, that mystery is solved (and I would've gotten away
with it too, if it weren't for you meddlesome kids!)...

;)
