One Hour Photo

Has anyone seen this film yet? I thought it was great.
Stars Robin Williams as a photo technician at a big American
superstore, and he stalks this family that gets their
pictures developed there.

Very cool imagery, I think a lot of people here would
appreciate the cinematography & visual style. The movie is
quite disturbing in some parts. Very unpredictable.

Thoughts?

I wanna see it, may be good. I have my serious doubts.

its okay. kind of a hypermodern taxi driver but doesn't take
the same risks that movie took. it had autechre in the
beginning though, that was cool.

"overand" was that tune, BTW...

As soon as i saw it on tv I thought about the collapse of
the 1 hour photo industry. when a movie like that comes out
im pretty sure more than a few people will rethink about
taking to get pics developed at all these secluded places.
and i think more people will start buy digital cameras so
they can develop the pics themselves on the computer. this
movie is good .. almost too good. we need movies like this
but at the same time its not good. its hard for me. i wish
all movies were more real ... more serious and not these
explostion laden cinematics. i think we've had enough of
those.

but yeah. i bet you anything 1 hour photo places will see a
slight decrease in business...of maybe im just over
paranoid.

what are your thoughts on this industry and the impact this
movie might cause?

I think some people will start demanding background checks
of photo techs at places like wal*mart. heh.

i didn't recognize it at first either...i should have! but
i was like 'this seems so familiar' then i fell off my
chair at my realization.

I agree with you XLR. they should do that...if they already
don't.

it was good, sure, but it was kind of like "hey, robin
williams is a psycho, what a novel idea" as opposed to "hey,
a really good dramatic actor plays the psycho". i mean,
williams is hilarious at times, but its like hes suppresing
what makes him interesting now. anyone could have made that
role good, and there are alot of actors who would have been
better than williams. the movie was sort of an excuse for
that premise.

The ever present One Hour Photo thread. Yes, I saw it and
dug it. Robin Williams was great; some of the narrative
reminded me of Memento, which is a good thing. I hear
there's a screener floating around that has a different
beginning than the one shown in theatres, I'd like to check
that out.

*Looking at zaphod's signature*.. it was neat seeing Sy
watch the Simpsons. Also Gary Cole reprise his manager role.
He could make an entire career out of it.

He was great as the lonely socially-inept old man though,
you have to give him credit for that at least. And then the
times when he just snaps...he's talented in the serious
roles.

i do like gary cole in those roles. but i reiterate: robin
williams should stick with what made him famous: manic
comedy. thats his genious, not sinister villians.

Anyone else fantasize about being brutally raped by Robin
Williams? Or at least molested?

I'm watching this movie right now in a DivX window, it's the
spooky red eye intro with...

Autechre! Overand! Gives it a weird air of familiarity. I
wonder how many people in the theaters knew this track?

offline uviol from United States on 2002-10-12 15:23 [#00401448]

I thought the movie was excellent as well, I loved it.. the
casting was impeccable, and i thought Robin Williams did a
surprisingly good job with his role. I thought there may
have been one loose end, with the store manager getting that
'photo flip book' .. or did that just serve to raise police
suspicion? Regardless, it was a great film.. and I can't
believe I didn't notice the Ae track! I'm so ashamed...

yeah, didnt notice the ae track

it was ok i thought.

it kind of just ended. like... BAM THEN END

the part with the dream and blood... the entire theater
burst out laughing at that

hehe

Hmm..yeah. was that girl the boss's daughter? I'm not sure
why that was done, just to spite the boss i guess.

offline uviol from United States on 2002-10-12 15:33 [#00401453]

yes, the photos were of his daughter.. just judging from
that shot where it pans across his desk photos earlier, but
I'm with you: other than being a last sorta flip off to the
boss, I'm not sure what the point of it was.

just to clarify, there was no autechre in the movie. it was
all original score by a german industrial techno duo.

It was a great movie, most def. Williams was hilario... erm,
I mean, demented.

Is it just me, or was some of the piano ''sad theme'' music
from American Beauty recycled for this film? Made me think
of Mena Suvari whenever I heard it. God I'd love to walk
into my bathroom and she's there, under all those petals.

*stares into space

well it depends. if you saw it in the theaters then no, you
only heard original music. if you downloaded it then chances
are you saw the screener version (sent to critics late last
year) with temp music from american beauty and requiem for a
dream.

Haha, yeah, I downloaded it the other day, that explains it.
It goes well, though, the movies are pretty similar... that
suburban crap.

i'm not sure if i liked it. i thought it was a bit slow in
parts, and the photoguy's miserable life was a bit tedious
and depressing to watch...but Robin Williams played the
character great.
