of the only albums i've heard fully (songs about my cats,
salt EP and doll doll doll)
i would definately say doll doll doll. dollmaker and all the
children are dead are fucking raw songs

here's a little breakdown of some albums for you:

doll doll doll - sick, twisted breakcore, some of the
darkest shit you'll ever hear, not for the weak at heart

higgins ultra low... - probably the one i would recommend
for the vsnares newb, vsnares' version of a friendly album,
very melodic, but still noise creditable

237 0894 - vsnares newest album, much like higgins, very
jazzy, but like every other vsnares album, its got it's
moments

songs about my cats - very freakish wierd album, hard to
describe, sheer brilliance in every moment of it though, my
personal favorite

making orange things - vsnares + speed ranch = total fucking
noise choas, indescribeable

start with those 4. when youve done that, come back and
we'll move on to some of the more obscure releases

237 0894 is unquestionably my favorite Snares album. His
most musically developed, matured, polished album to date.
Very listenable, especially since it's a b-sides/outtakes
compilation.

Songs about my Cats may not be the best place to start as it
is fairly abstract..but it's one of the most incredible
albums I have heard in a while..the fine line between
madness and genius repeatedly trodden and stomped over all
over that album...

Dolls Dolls Dolls is fairly easy listening and
straightforward by comparison

I would say Higgins is the best thing to get first for a
newbie, i started on Song about my Cats, and it scared the
shit out of me, i thought Chinaski was going to stay like
that the whole way like it does in the first 20 seconds

What a shock i got

Best to hear the abstract first i say. I never knew Autechre
sounded the way they did on Amber or Tri Repetae... coz i
started around Confield. It was strange i say...

Not that this thread is about Autechre... but hey. Nah, go
for the full on in-yer-face stuff first!

all I have is dolls, and though it tends to seriously

soon.

I've never heard a single song by venetian snares, so I'll
just say their best album is "Barney Dinosaur TripHop Mega
Happy Hardcore Adventure Land, Part II"

any comparisonjs to Squarepusher, lads. I'm reading that
Vsnares is jazzy on some albums, noisey on others... all can
be said of SP but does he have a similar energy, drive,
sence of melody, rhtymn, structure, reference, magic?

Haha, sorry, what I meant is that it might have some
squarepusher sound to you and it might have not. The higgins
album to me is obviously informed by Go Plastic, but I don't
know what are the key features of Squarepusher's sound for
you, so.....

I just assumed that as I saw 3 copies in my local record
store here in Augsburg the other day. But that may be
because Hymen is a German label.

snares's rhythmic style is pretty different than pusher's.
it's a lot flatter and less reliant on layering and
emulation of actual drumming. there are plenty of weird
grooves, though, and the unusual time signatures add a lot
rythmically.
