audience figures..

"4.8 million people watched Big Brother last night"

how the @*^x do they know how many people are watching
telly and more importantly , which CHANNEL they are watching
?

it sounds suspect to me, but you get these 'golden' figures
in the papers. They make it up right ? its bugging me thats
all :)

I think it's still based on how many households with
"ratings boxes" watched a particular show.

ratings boxes ?

so if 2 out of 10 people with 'ratings boxes' watched TV ,
thats 20% , or 10 million right ?

how fucking scientific !

how come they're so accurate though ?

the one in radio times has 2.28 million / 3.76 million etc
.... thats all just anotated then ?

hmmm...

No, its is the boxes. People sign up I think and their
viewing habits are monitored. They've got them specially
located all over hte country to make it even and different
ethnic minorities etc

so its like the pre-election polls then...

only a tiny minority are monitored and then they assume
evryone else is following suit...

well thats crap. I won't believe them again.

i thought there was a way they new when a television was
opened at their channel (dont know how though), and then
they multiplied the number of tvs opened at their channel by
x, x being the average number of persons watching one tv
(should be like 1.5-2).

it's just a guess.

haven't you ever had someone ring you up or bang on your
door demanding to know what channel you're watching?

cos it is actually me, cos i live in a big house with 17
million televisions and people monitor what i watch on each
telly: also each telly is monitered by a person so i have a
household of 17000001 people and that is why they say how
many veiwers there are rather than how many of each channel
i am watching...

I actually had one of those boxes on my tv for awhile, for
neilson television ratings. it was just a thing you put on
your tv, and you punch in who is watching, and it records
who is watching what at what hour, etc. no harm done.
