External info: Rich says the exact same thing each time, but that same thing can be interpreted as follows:
  - in the heat - when i eat - at ni-ight so, im not taking any more beetles related submissions unless they have REALLY solid proof and/or doesnt have anything to do with that sentence. im going outta my mind
  -Carth
Now see, I got this bit from Darcy Brennan: page at the University of Vermont: "Adult beetles fly readily, are attracted to sunlight, and are often found around windows. In spring, many adults feed outdoors on the pollen of flowers such as Spirea and fruit trees. Cast skins of the larvae may be found anywhere and often blow around when drawers and doors are opened."

"I mistakenly believed that the phrase was "they come out at ni-ight" until i found your page. i read under my feet and carpet. what richard is referring to is the beetle larvae under his feet, chewing on his carpet, and the adults coming out "in the heat". he is assuming that it is the bright midday sunlight they crave, when in fact it is the sun itself. I found this after I had given up on confirming the nocturnal habitats. I believe you will agree with me that these are in fact the beetles the song is written about, and they most definately do not "come out" "at night" as the larvae prefer darkness, but also shelter. I must note that although this article is presented in an American university, carpet beetles are a diverse breed, present in north america, australia, and europe and likely asia and south america, though i have not confirmed this."
"I am not an entomologist myself, but this evidence seems point to in the heat in my logic, and possibly as a result of my conviction, when i listened to the song again, i heard "in the heat". I am not saying I believe i was incorrect the 2nd time around, on the contrary I was as amazed as when I first found your page and could understand richard's ramblings through his strong accent. at night or in the night is how it sounded to me, when i was not taking his
