Their album is a classic

Yep, Mike Patton and some woman are the main 2 singers I
think it's brilliant, it's really my kind of music. It's
kind of sleazy, melancholy, lounge music.

Jonesy: I bought CanOx because I'm mad about CoFlow, but
it's different... Quite different, but very good. Still,
CoFlow are the best... Oh, yeah, my album of the moment? Um,
let me think:

Tabla Beat science: Tala Matrix. One of the better things
Bill Laswell has done in a while.

I just picked up Prefuse 73 - Vocal Studies and Uprock
Narratives a few days ago. It rocks my world. I had no idea
what to expect having never heard it, but I was pleasantly
surprised.

sweet.

Meho: Co Flow's album blew me away. I played it so much
about three/four years ago - everyday on my walkman going to
work. Its so different - minimal beats, no choruses.

I've been meaning to check out Bill Laswell. Is it Asian
then?

Does anyone like Talvin Singh or Nitin Sawhney or stuff on
Outcaste?

offline fuckmusicians on 2002-03-12 15:47 [#00122793]

Bill Laswell plays bass guitar and produces lots of shit. He
does a lot of projects. If you like Talvin Singh, you should
like Tabla Beat Science.

He does some good shit.

offline jonesy from Lisboa (Portugal) on 2002-03-12 15:51 [#00122803]

I'll check him out.

I must recommend this book to people - 'The Ambient Century'
by Mark Prendergrast. Its well written, informative and goes
form Debussy to Jazz to Cage to Eno to Aphex Twin to
Tangerine Dream to Trance to Derrick May. Its good for
making the links between different people and seeing a
continuity in modern music.

jonesy: same here, I can't seem to get tired of Co flow, I
listen to it at least 2-3 times a week (considering that I
get about 3-4 new CD's a week, that's a lot). Fucking great
shite, and what ATTITUDE!!! Time/Warner will fall!!!

Bill Laswell has made more stuff that even he cares to
remember, but not all of it is so good. He is adventurous
and sometimes those adventures just don't sound good. I've
got about 10-15 of his albums in different settings, line
ups and genres and I tried to pick only those I like...
Tabla Beat science is actually better (at least for me) than
any of talvin's own albums. But Talvin's on it, as well as
Zakir Husain, the world's best Tabla player. Check it out
it's really a happy marriage between classical indian stuff
(classical as in "court music") and breakbeat science. I've
listened to it a lot in the last few weeks

I will check it out. I love those Madra strings. There's an
album my mate lent me by Jolly Mockerjie (spelt wrong) and
the Madras Cinematic Orchestra that is good. Badmarsh and
Shri's last album has got some good stuff on it too.

Co Flow have split up now haven't they?

My copy of Vespertine got burnt along with shitloads of
other tapes when my car was stolen and burnt out before
Xmas. The bastards!!!

Nope. The police don't give a shit. I found where the car
had been dumped and all that was left was a melted tape on
the floor. I could read my handwriting on the label. I
almost cried. In fact I'm welling up right now. Ahem.
