Something weird has happened to me of late. Perhaps it isn't quite weird, as I guess it's only a natural progression, but still: I've become uncontrollably obsessed with Aphex Twin and Squarepusher's latest albums; Drukqs and Go! Plastic. Of the two, Drukqs pulled me in immediately, probably simply because I was a huge RDJ fan for a while beforehand. I really can't get enough of his hardcore, multi-layered, and masterful drill and bass extravaganzas. They do something to me in the depths of my very psyche, something profound and indescribable. In particular I would like to mention the tracks '54 cymru beats' and 'omgyjya switch7', both of which blow me away without fail. I've actually listened to each of these tracks tens of times in succession without getting bored or disinterested in the least. Go! Plastic is a much more highly refined album, being less than half as long as Drukqs at a mere 48 minutes. I think Tom Jenkinson must be profoundly insane if his music is any reflection of his mental makeup. I'm very much in love with one particular track on this album, that being 'The Exploding Psyche', which has a few moments of pure and absolute perfection, beginning at 2 minutes, 55 seconds. no thats not strange-although i like the squarepusher album, i can honestley say that i listen to my md compilation of drukqs everyday-its become an obsession, and have done since its release-yet i still dont think its richs best -now that is weird!! |
