*APhex_18_sthlm* from sthlm on 2001-11-06 12:24 [#00048995]

hi! i heard from a friend that one specific song with aphex
twin made several people (who sufferd from epelepsi)to a
epelepsi attak!!...and i thougt that was weird...anyone know
which song im talking about? (it mess with your brain)

</sine707> from Frankfurt/Germany on 2001-11-06 12:26 [#00048997]

54 Cymru Beats......

(I guess)

Ceri Charlton from J-Labs, UoG, Wales on 2001-11-06 12:27 [#00048998]

Epilepsy (and then only the photoreactive type) can only be
triggered by light, not sound. Also the statistical chance
of having 6 photosensitive epileptics in the same room is
practically nil.

Sounds like a rumour sorry.

*APhex_18_sthlm* from sthlm on 2001-11-06 12:30 [#00049001]

no...i dont think so...im gonna ask him next time i meet
him!=) His sister listens to aphex twin...and her friend
gets an attak every time she listens to a song! (shes has
epilepsi ofcourse) And thats the only song she never listens
to more..how about that! =)

*APhex_18_sthlm* from sthlm on 2001-11-06 12:33 [#00049002]

not any song i mean...just that ONE song.

Ceri JC from Wales,UK on 2001-11-06 14:55 [#00049040]

Tell me where she lives so I can run up to her with a ghetto
blaster pumping the song at full volume. IN THE NAME OF
SCIENCE MAN DO WHAT IS RIGHT!

borix on 2001-11-06 14:59 [#00049043]

There is a song on Drukqs where in the end Richard starts
screwing around with the sounds (he always is screwing
around with the sounds but not in this way). I don't know
which one by heart but I will find out. He cuts all the
sounds up and makes a eum... strobe effect only with sounds
pfff... donno how to explain. I will find the song and you
can judge for yourself.

Fernz from Rainy Scotland on 2001-11-06 15:00 [#00049044]

Mt Saint Michel mix = St Michael's Mount?

borix on 2001-11-06 15:07 [#00049047]

Yeah, that could be the one. He starts messing around and
creates very fast repetitive sounds with pauzes (silences).
If you play that hard on you earphones you get weird in you
head. I LIKE IT! :D

Fernz from Rainy Scotland on 2001-11-06 15:11 [#00049049]

Listen to it next time you are mashed. I did it last night
and all I can say is HOLY FUCK... It gets nauseating. :D

CAM\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'ANN from Glasgow on 2001-11-06 15:15 [#00049053]

It sounds like he's running something metal over a the
spokes on a turning bike wheel, underwater, on fire, with
some nuns...

Fernz from Rainy Scotland on 2001-11-06 15:16 [#00049054]

Scraping the rails that keep you sane... or sumfin. :)

DblHeLX from the moon on 2001-11-06 16:33 [#00049096]

seeing how epilepsy 'attacks' are caused by light and color
patterns, not sounds, id have to say your friend is full of
crap.

DblHeLX from the moon on 2001-11-06 16:34 [#00049097]

oh man, i just read this whole thread and aphex is sooooo
full of shit its unbelievable,
wipe your chin, you lieing fuck.

borix on 2001-11-06 16:44 [#00049101]

Epilepsi attacks are caused by shortsircuit of parts of the
brain and can be ellicited by flasing lights and colour
patterns. Why the fuck should it be impossible for sound
patterns to have the same effect.

2-MePhNMePr2N from words on a gravestone on 2001-11-06 17:00 [#00049106]

Fernsz-andall of those who bakewhileways they listen to the
incrediblestereo sounds-I speak, of, music.

Two words:

Pole "Klettern".

DblHeLX from the moon on 2001-11-06 17:02 [#00049107]

trust me genius, it just is. i have mild epilepsy, i had a
'fit' when i played sonic the hedgehog 2 for saga genises
the first time.
sounds can NOT give you a 'fit' they CAN get your adreniline
pumping though. maybe this guy's, friend's , sister is too
fragile and passed out from overstimulation, but i was NOT
epilepsy

DblHeLX from the moon on 2001-11-06 17:03 [#00049108]

'it was not epilepsy' sorry for the type-o.

Aktium from bat country on 2001-11-06 18:00 [#00049127]

i love how 54 Cymru Beats gets crazy at the end. if you
listen closely the beat just desinigrates into the
craziness. its brilliant!!!

B3n from Sheffield on 2001-11-06 18:07 [#00049130]

"He cuts all the sounds up and makes a eum... strobe effect
only with sounds pfff..."

Yeah! I love that bit, I listened to it with headphones in a
dark room at the computer and tipped my head back and it had
a weird effect. I can't imagine what that would do if it was
played live.

DblHeLX from the moon on 2001-11-06 18:19 [#00049133]

i seriously think you guys are talking about st. michels
mount.
thats the one that chops up in the last minute, you know,
with the chick singing samples.
54cymru beats just gets all sqeaky at the end

Ceri JC from Wales on 2001-11-06 18:37 [#00049137]

Whoa... I was just sitting in a darkened room, the only
light source being my computer running "Geiss" on my 22"
monitor. I listened to Cock 10 and 54 Cymru Beats facing
away from the monitor.

In the quiet bits there was little or no wave so the room
went nearly pitch black, but in the frantic bits the walls
lit up different colours and shadows shifted.

In each pause I could feel myself slipping into torpor, but
then was brought back by the lights and sound.

I can't wait for my copy of drukqs to arrive so I can try
this on other tracks.

I'm also considering buying two variable speed strobes and
putting a red filter on one and a yellow on the other then
having them out of phase at different speed. With no other
light in the room and closing my eyes there'd be a brain
machine affect like at the drukqs listening party. Wild. Has
anyone else tried a setup like this, if so what?

B3n from Sheffield on 2001-11-06 18:49 [#00049140]

DblHeLX: It is St michaels yeah, sorry

Aktium from bat country on 2001-11-06 20:48 [#00049177]

i was talking about 54 crymu beats. i love the end of st.
micheals though. i produces a weird feeling in my head

Aktium from bat country on 2001-11-06 20:50 [#00049179]

ya, so im a bed speller alright. anyway. im starting to
think that druqks might be giving me brain damage. i need
to lay off the drukqs for a little bit. i need to start
paying more attention to my universal indicator collection.

Quadrapelegicrobotikev from mp3.com/quadrapelegicrobotik on 2001-11-06 21:00 [#00049183]

that sounds like bullshit talking

Aktium from bat country on 2001-11-06 21:49 [#00049204]

it is, im listening to drukqs right now

borix on 2001-11-07 10:27 [#00049318]

Just consider something like synesthesia. A disorder RDJ is
rumoured to have where your senses are mixed (see a colour
with a particulair sound or smell for example). I fsomething
like this can take place then (I think) sounds could also
cause a fit.

Ceri JC on 2001-11-07 11:37 [#00049343]

Anyone know of any *cheap* strobes that can be linked to an
audio out to flash in time to a beat? It would be great to
have a UV strobe in time to the rdJ album in a normal lit
room.

wizards teeth on 2001-11-07 14:29 [#00049393]

sounds can cause colours to be thought about, hence sounds
can cause images.

what do you think of when you hear a "moooooo" sounds.

I think of cows, my mother thinks of milk, my father thinks
of hooves and my sister thinks of telescopes.

mr cunq on 2001-11-07 15:04 [#00049394]

isnt epilepsy just some like low threshold thing. Ie if
anyone went sleep deprived they would eventually fit. but
epilleptics have like a lower threshold (which can be set
off by strobes) but can also be set off by strees and shit -
and so St. Mt Mix with nice closed hedphonz and shit could
make someone go quitemental. Me : i like it .. i love it -
it reallyfucks with your head.

Are you sure you're not thinking of Ventolin, which is based
on the noise you hear when you have an asthma attack??

mr cunq on 2001-11-07 17:41 [#00049462]

no ventolin is noisy and annoying .-- but mt. st. michel
etc.. has got like doppler shit going on - frequency (not in
terms of pitch)

fuck these musicians on 2001-11-07 17:47 [#00049467]

Fuck epilepsy.

The end of St. Michael's Mt. nearly gives me a heart attack
whenever I listen to it.

Ah well. Small price to pay.

thanksomuch from planet claire on 2001-11-08 05:25 [#00049630]

Ceri Charlton is right. my cousin has it. you don't react to
sound, only light an other chemical factors that happen in
the brain, that are usually controlled by meds.
