Soulseek Chatrooms

Last night I went into one of the IDM chatrooms on
Soulseek, expecting to talk about, surprise, IDM music.
Instead there was some bizarre, juvenile conversation going
on that involved Britney Spear's vagina and lots of gay
bashing. Why is it that some people in chatrooms are really
ignorant and childish? I felt that their representation of
the IDM fanbase was disqusting, it reminded me of high
school all over again. I think Im just going to stick to
messageboards from now on.

Were you the fag complaining in the .nu room?

j/k

Seriously, if people strike up friendships by going in the
same room all the time (the .nu room has people who've been
going there for over a year now) then they're not gonna talk
about IDM ALL the time... just like this messageboard.

Some of the rooms on soulseek are full of retards, some
people intentionally talk shit to provoke reactions. If you
don't like it, then don't go back.

I mainly go to SS chatroom when I'm looking for someone in
particular to talk to. Occasionally I'll talk to everyone
there, but it's not really to my taste.

Neo: That chatroom is great.

loving the fact soulseek and the .nu room are still running
to this date.
it´s been a while since i talked to anyone there, but
soulseek still is simply amazing. where else can you get
tons of quality music in a matter of seconds, then discover
loads more browsing a users files. for 20 years now the
users there have been complete and utter dedicated nerdy
music fetishists with well sorted file structures. when i
want new music i go there first. you down the album you
looked for just to find out the rabbit hole goes a lot
deeper. you can even go insult random strangers. everything
free and uncensored. no accounts, no email, no invites, no
quotas, no ripoff, no waiting, no captchas, no asslicking.
love the place and the people and greatly enjoyed my
juvenile friday nights with online mixing and music exchange
there.

i agree with everything you said, mostly, so i tried to
think of problems

* crappy rips/encodings of things
* 'well sorted file structures' - nah, but that doesn't
matter
* ...err that's it

finding people who have tonnes of stuff that is recorded
from the radio and ripped from cassettes is a total treat
also you can find many many books on there, pretty much
anything beyond a certain age... although i wonder if my
'anything' is a bit limited, there.

always loved watching the chatrooms go past and wondering
where all these people are, all over the globe, what type of
buildings they are living in, etc.

back in 2001/2002 i actually went out to LA for a vacation
and stayed with someone i used to talk to on soulseek and we
met up with some other people from there too. talked to
narkotic over the phone while i was out there, but we never
met up. have met up with him another time though when he
came out my way several years back. yes i have met & hung
out with complete strangers i've talked to online.

buildings are kind of different within a country but even
more so globally. i was quite astonished of some flats and
houses i visited.
did you know in the netherlands most flats have a wide
panorama window in the livingroom and they are street level
too. i believe germany has the most fortified castles. id
like to have a single thread for posting your
flat/residence/manor, but that would be a bit invading.
