I've seen a cd at my local music store that keeps grabbing
my attention, the artists called Air.I've never heard of
them, are they any good,is it IDM,trip-hop or what?
It looks ambient-ish music ,BoC style.

"I don't mind wasting money,I brough Big Calm by Morcheeba
last week! "

So did I, hehe...I hated it though. :D

Air are very nice, and their new album is more experimental
then Moon Safari, which is more lovely and chilled.

air's very nice.. i'd recommend the album 'premiers
symptomes'
its mostly instrumental.. a bit more cinematic sounding than
their other stuff..

its really mellow retro sounding stuff.. a little bit like
boc, i suppose.. if anything because they share an obsession
with vintage modular synthesizers and vocoders..and the
nostalgia that comes with the sounds they make..

some of its a bit cheesy, intentionally though..
occasionally reminiscent of 70's porn music

i dont know if you've seen the virgin suicides...they did
the original score to that movie

I brought Outcast's Stankonia,Big Calm Morcheeba and a
classical chillout album for £14.99 total.

Air is very intentionally cheesy.. sometimes it works, many
times it's just annoying .. I love cheese but not usually
their type of Mary Tyler Moore-ish soundtrack stuff..
Moon Safari, particularly Le Femme d'Argent is great,
though. It just gets boring quickly to me.

Ahh yeah...air lovely sleeping music, relaxing as hell. I
have the virgin suicides score, interesting, somewhat
boring, good for a movie, don't get the album.

Cheesy like Goon-Gumpa-cheesy?

Well, similar aesthetic and I would guess similar motive ..
it's like they are fusing electronica with the theme to
Three's Company while giving you a little *wink wink*. So,
in one sense yes, it is like Goon Gumpas, except it sounds
more like Price is Right than Snow White.

Premiers symptoms is theri crowning achievement.all the
sinlges that made them famous. "modular mix" and "le soleil
set pre de moi" are awsome tracks. Try playing "Brakes on"
in a room lit with a red lightbulb. heh heh. Their last cd
sucked dont buy it.

Agreed. They have a very unique sound: A cross between
between chilled lounge-jazz and Brian Eno (or you can make
up your own :) ).

buy moon safari first... 10,000 hz legend is a mixed bag,
tho i loved it at first. definitely listen to their early
music first.
