A great combination! I like to set the game to the most easy settings possible... so that the competition will be no match for me, and i don't have to worry about winning. This way i can play the game hardly without concentrating on it.
When i just sit down and listen to a cd... i don't know... it works when i listen to something for the first time. But after i've gotten to know it a little better. I somehow get bored and my thoughts start to drift away... not concentrating on the music anymore.
If i put on music during any other activity... well it's great ofcourse, but i'm still not really focussing on the music.
But listening whilst playin a racegame is just perfect. The racing keeps my fingers and brain just occupied enough so that i have plenty of attention left to indulge in the music... but not so much that i would get bored.
It is just Hypnotic! The hours fly by, and it is often during these sessions that i suddenly "get" an album, and that i really hear and understand it for the first time.
I find at the moment F-Zero X works particularly well for me :-p

what was really sad was when the legendary Front 242 provided original music for some European race car DVD... on an unrelated note.

I know what you mean - it's like you go into an alpha state and the music seeps in and folds itself into your subconscious.
I'm not a gamer but I get that effect when I'm writing or coding while listening. Exercise works too but who wants to do that? Not me apparently.

"the music is always the highlight of any game that I really love."
Have you actually heard the music to F-Zero X?! Jesus christ... it's an excellent game but the music is horrible! It reminds me of 80's rockmusic :-(
I kind of know what you mean, because most of the time i also want to hear the original music... but with racinggames it's just different.

lol, me neither ;-) I know it's good for me... but i hate it so much i'll gladly die a few years earlier if i can atleast spend my time here on earth exercise-free :-p
And even if i would want to work out... i would go actually running or bicycling! Who would want to ride on a bicycle-simulator in some sweaty gym?! It's so... so... decadent!

Ha ha, I was just about to skip to the end of the thread and post how f-zero x was the best for this (for me) when I noticed you'd mentioned it at the end of your post.

It is a great game :-) After alot of practice you can just glide around these tracks without ever once bumping into a wall! (nintendo-playability at it's best!). It plays like a dream... just perfect. I really can't say enough nice things about it (as long as the volume is turned down ;-)).
I really wonder if Sega will be able to deliver the same playability with the new F-Zero for gamecube... somehow i doubt it.

I know- you think it's really easy and the tracks are overly simple, but it's just that you've mastered it from playing for so many hours. You get a geginner on it and they crash left, right and center :)

ALL the F-Zero games (with the exception of one or two tracks on the Snes version) were horrible! Ugh, the 64 easily takes the top prize though. I used to love to eat space cakes then put something fast by the Prodigy on and play Mario Kart on the Snes for hours....

hehe... yeah the SNES had some good tunes... altough it's been too long for me to remember with which tracks.
But so you DO like the game, no?

"I know- you think it's really easy and the tracks are overly simple, but it's just that you've mastered it from playing for so many hours."
I know! But the feeling you get from not making any crashes is just unbelievable! And the longer you keep it up... the faster you go. It's unbelievable how fast the nintendo64 sometimes allows you to go :-)
And even after many hours of practice in a somewhat comparible game like Extreme G... i still keep crashing into walls every three seconds ;-) I think it's this that sets F-Zero X apart from the rest.

Yeah, the Snes one would probably be my favourite. The N64 version was cool although it was missing a little bit of magic... and the GBA version might've been good, but I could never see it to play it properly!

I did find the snes-version the best one. But still... i was surprised to how well they managed to capture the same atmosphere in full 3d.
And i must confess all the twists and turns the tracks make give me a kick the flat snes-tracks weren't able to :-D
But yeah... overal the snes-version felt even better... i played that game all the time.

As someone who owns (and has played to death) all 3 I'd say I rank them:
1. N64 2. GBA 3. Snes

2. GBA 3. Snes
these are different?! I thought the GBA-version was just a port from the snes-game...
:-)
Well that's very cool! Makes me wish i had a GBA.
