Playstation 3's Processor: 100x Faster than Pentium
4

Sony and Toshiba have sealed a deal with Rambus for a hot
new memory chip which will ensure that the Playstation 3
will have blaring speed and unparalleled sound and graphics
capability.

The two companies are also working on a complex new
processor for the Playstation 3 called "Cell", which will be
able to perform about 100 times faster than a 2.5 GHz
Pentium 4 chip.

The Rambus memory that Playstation 3 will use must be able
to deal with a processor this fast. "Yellowstone" can
process data three times faster than currently available,
over 100 gigabits per second.

is it just me, or are computer-companies releasing new
consoles faster and faster?

Microsoft started working on the Xbox2 right after the first
Xbox was released, and now nintendo are also working on the
follow up-console for the GameCube already...

this sucks!

How much more can we possibly improve over the possibilities
that exist today? Ofcourse the graphics will be better and
more detailed... but i honestly believe on a level of
gameplay... the limits of what can be achieved on a
television-screen have been achieved.

I'd be much more interested in new software where the
developers use the existing hardware to the maximum.

Sounds to me like the Playstation 3 could be the machine for
the next 10 years forget about 5 (which is the standard
shelf life of a console).

This is almost certainly bollocks, and besides look at all
the hype that surrounded the PS2, with the 'emotion engine'
and how powerful it was gonna be, and what did it turn out
to be? A slightly improved PS1 with a DVD player. Fuck Sony,
they suck.

:-)

At last! Atleast someone agrees with me on this one.

I just hope that nintendo's new cosole will still allow you
to play GameCube-games (probably not though). I wouldn't
mind... well... ehr... let's say i would mind less
having to buy a new console all the time if i could atleast
still keep my collection of games :-/
