Hey,

I know this sounds dumb, but I am just getting into Aphex
Twin, I love that stuff.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to go about
mixing or creating songs in this style. If anyone can help
me, just post, or e-mail me at:

dylan_baby@hotmail.com

Thanks!

-Eric

yeah I hope someone can help me ... I'm just not sure how
the whole sampling thing works and stuff. Like, how would I
get started?

well if your question was that in the begining you should
have come out and asked that, not about Aphex Twin cause how
the hell would we know.

Theres a lot of guys here who make music, which is very
well. Theres a lot more people than what you see online not
here. Kinda slow---but just keep on asking =)

you mean keep asking the same question? ok:

how would i go about doing the whole sampling bit and such?
is it done on just a computer or what? hopefully someone
can give me a little insight into this. i would love to get
into samples and stuff, maybe someone knows some programs or
something. i gotta get off this now, but e-mail me if you
can help me out or i'll just find this post tomorrow.

Check out the programs fruity loops and reason, they are for
your computer (fruity loops: pc only, reason: macintosh and
pc compatible), and they are a great start to what you want
to do I think. I make tunes in Reason sometimes, its a great
little app, an all in one digital studio type program, right
up your ally I think, so is fruity loops.

Check em both out, download the demo's, see which one you
like best.

I am Mickey Mouse, I r help, Yay!

I AM HELPING! YAY!!!

Yay!

try www.futureproducers.com

you will find lots of info on how the music making process
works...

as you start and learn you will notice is almost imposible
to make what Aphex does :)

Get the programs and practise! theres no secret "Key", to
how to make things cool. Learn the basics and twist the
knobs the way u like them.

I reccomend fruityloops, as its fairly simple to get an
illegal copy. (its hell to get reason)

I've tried to find fruityloops by other means, but I can't
seem to find the thing. I've used Kazaa. Anyone have a
link, you can just e-mail me it.

floop will be a good start. you don't need anything (samples
or vst's), everything is bundled... if you have a question
just to floops, e-mail me matrigs@wp.pl i worked with it a
lot so i hope i will know the answers

download fruity loops and say uhm fm7.

Try to understand how to use these programs. Once you know
how... leave them!
DON'T USE THEM!
one day you'll wake up, full of inspiration. And then you're
ready to go.

Acid Pro is nice too...i find that easier to fine tweak
stuff...really puts you in the middle of things.

as for hardware vs. software sampling...
soft samplers like Kontakt, HALion and the sampler in Reason
will rival any hardware sampler.

The above samplers are much more versatile, and better
quality (yes, really) not to mention the ease of use...

the only drawback is the polyphony and the MIDI timing
issues (the main reason for using hardware samplers is the
strict timing)

oh and the soft samplers cost about 10 times less :))

IMHO, if you're just messing about, get Reason (or Reason
II), if you're serious, get Native Instruments Kontakt
(sampler), Native Instruments Reaktor (sound generation - to
put it mildy !!:)) and a sequencer like Cubase, Logic etc
etc.... but it starts getting quite expensive..

hey tobester.... do you want us to write the music for you
too..... damn boy!

you've heard of this thing called the internet right? use
it!

i could talk on this for years, but hey, its all been said
before.. :)))

download a demo of Reason.... see if it is worth the effort
to download illegally (you tight-ass!)

write songs for me? will you please? :) hehe

Knowing my computer, it won't run Reason either, so Fruity
is my way to get started. I'll try finding it, and get this
mixing stuff going. :)

tobester: "dont get stuck in fruity loops" was just an
important tip for the future.

phonomusic: it is not almost impossible to do what afx does.
its very possible =)

I sometimes make some AFX-like tunes, but I rarely save
them... I feal like a ripp off the minute the song's
finished.
I just tested out one of his tricks; Take a vocal sample (a
girl screaming in terror(3,5 sec.)) and ripped it into many
peaces, and put it back togeather in a slightly different
order, each piece in a different frequency. It came out
pretty cool, but it took me ages to do it (I'm using Music
2000 on PSX). After i messed with the scream for a while it
took over 15 sec. in play.

How about trying not to do everything in one day tobester.

Best wishes

listen carfully, analyze, practice and waste lots of time
doing it without pondering how pointless it truly is.

thats actually quite good advice, w M w..

just try to have fun with it. try to make sounds.

FORGET about making tracks at the moment (for the
time being)- not important. sounds first.
