Therapy Session #2

offline BlatantEcho from All over (United States) on 2002-12-31 15:41 [#00496732]

I don't try 100% at anything I do, and accept my mediocrity
at school and life becuase I am afraid of failure.

This session again concentrated on my Dr. figuring out the
underlying controls that prevent me from being happy.

I'm anxious/nervous and all this stuff becuase I fear
failure. I can accept criticism only if I am not trying
100%.

In the rare event I give all of myself to someone or a task,
I better be damn sure it is going to turn out ok.

I'm never going to be what I dream unless I can embrace
failure as a part of the process and not feel like shit for
fucking up from time to time.

Next session is going to be about strategies to do just
this.

----------------------
I feel much bette, and can't wait till fridays meeting. I
think I am going to get over my fear and really blossom into
the person I want to be.

The wait is killing me, I hope it lasts.

it makes so much sense when you read it like that. I had
seen some of your non-studying posts before, and i always
thought that you should stop complaining about it, and just
sit down and do your work, lol.

But yeah... your Dr. seems to know what he's talking about.
Atleast that first post made perfect sense to me... knowing
the problem is half the battle won i think. So good luck!
:-) i hope it'll all work out for you. It's a terrible
feeling when you're not able to be who you'd want to be.

hey George, I appreciate the support and kind words.

I always posted about how I was posting to put off studying.
I'm now struggling to get past that, and I think I will do
ok.

your last line is very telling.

"It's a terrible feeling when you're not able to be who
you'd want to be."

cheers mate

Blatant,
dont you feel that other people telling YOU how YOUR mind
works difficult??

I can take critisism from the people i know well and love,
but from other areas i get very deffensive

i am really affraid of criticism.

what I found out myself though, is that my fears, which I
couldn't understand or find a reason for having, were
holding me back.

I didn't know why I couldn't study, or why I was always
nervous and anxious.

I have sought the advice and treatment of a professional,
and so far, it has been everything I could have imagined.

I'm learning how I can act on my dreams instead of just
dreaming. I'm enabling myself to be me, and it is a fine
feeling.
