I've taken op to a month, and that is actually staying on track with a song. I've made a few before in a mere hour, and they weren't just shit either, sometimes I can just sit and get everything in and I'm happy.
Average is most likely 5 days.

I make a track in a couple of hours, then listen to it over a week or so and keep adding stuff to it.

I often make a track really quick cause if i work too long on it it always feels wrong and sounds terrible.
It is better to finnish when you feel it's finnished rather that sitting months with a song and change it to a mess.
One thing I do all the time is re-making songs. I make a song over a night, in a day or two. Then four months later I listen to it and it sounds good but not fresh so then I just make it all from scratch again. well, not always... but sometimes it works and sometimes not.

yeah i know what you mean.. if you work on a song too long you start to change things but that only makes things worse...
usually takes me 3 days, and after a week or so not working on it i finish it...

I basically agree with the consensus here ..I like working and wrapping up a song fast..if I dont it becomes another song altogether...
but on the other hand I spend a lot more times creating loops, riff, effects, sound ideas and keeping them in the to be used folder than actually making songs...so by the time I come around to putting together a song..half my work is already done...

ok, well, and what about 'mixing'?(to those rather, who work mostly/onlywith computer)
Do you work on it after finnishing entire track? Like- adding some reverb, filtering etc...cuz i often find some effect to be an integral part of a 'composition', not only a 'final touch'. Especially in a genre like electronic/IDM. And it's sometimes hard to me to split those two things. Maybe that's the reason i'm working on a song such a long time...
i hope i'm not stating the obvious here.

i don't start to make o song in the evening, cause i know i will not finish it. i get the best stuff if i make it in one day. if i try to change something later.. nothing works what are you working with ?

I used to be able to crank out tunes day after day, each day making a new song, but it usually never was longer then 5:00 mins.
I think you have to systematically break all your mental blocks, for instance, I could never make a song over 3:00 mins without losing interest, it took me a long time to get over that hurdle.
Then I trained myself to work on a song for more then a day, so usually, I start an idea, do something else, come back to it, work on it a little, go away, then come back agian, until its finished.
Its all mental, you have to be mentally strong and beat down your mental barriers I think.
At least that is what I had to do.
I hope this helps you out somewhat Silesian
Be mentally strong and youll eventually break your mental blocks that you subconciously put on yourself
