First drum set ever, don't even know how to play the things:
Slingerland 5 piece kit.
Bass with two toms, snare and floor tom thing.
Crash symbols with no stand, a ride symbol and some other big crash symbol.
Also got assorted sticks and wisks or whatever.
I lack a few symbol stands, a throne, or bass pedal, but I'll get them tommorow. Set is off white and looks new.
it is used, but the price to me ~$350
----------------------- Anyone got any tips about this drumming thing? I'm just going to teach myself and see how it goes. This is rather exciting I'll say! :D

It's friggin' tight....

Never, ever cross your arms when playing- looks cool, but if you can mastr playing without it you can get so much better.
First thing my mate's (good drummer- plays for a samba band that plays clubs & festivals) drum teacher taught him...

damn, doesn't everyone do that though?
to hit the hi-hat and the snare at the same time?
does it just mess with your coordination or something?

Sounds like a pretty sweet deal.
Oh, and there's really no disadvantage to crossing your arms. I wouldn't worry too much about it.
If you're right-handed, it'll be really hard to play un-crossed. If you're left-handed you could try it. Although many lefties put the hi-hat on the right side just so they can cross.

omg, this is the best therapy ever
I set it up , bought a few stands, and just drown my own mind out.
this is wonderful. Hours go by and all that happens is my ears ring.

That's what I use. They're great.
I like them much more than ear plugs, because when you put them on, you're set.
You don't have to worry if they're slipping out of place, like ear plugs tend to do because of sweat.
symbols = cymbals.
I use a wooden chair too, heh. Just have fun.
