alright, i'm at home for a few weeks and obviously w/o my college ethernet connection. to get online but avoid having to pay, i signed up for AOL for the first time since i was 12 (which was many years ago, mind you). anyway, it's free, but the software is so annoying. i don't know how some of you can stand it. my internet browser's crashed a few times already and i just installed aol tonight. anywya, my question is: is there a way to dial into aol w/o using their clunky software? can i just add a dial-up networking connection w/ an aol access # for the phone # and my login/pass, or do i have to use their software? thanks.

AOL and "software"
do not belong in the same sentence :)
--------------- after I'm done being a jerk, I can say I don't know the answer to your question.
I doubt you can, as their whole deal is the internet portal thing. Would defeat the purpose of make them a high priced regular ISP.

there is yes, but you'll receive hate mail from them. i recommend closing down the software (minimising), then opening up your normal browser and using that.

Most universities have a modem pool. You ought to ask your local IT folks to see if you can get an account.
