Find on the Mu messageboard http://www.planet-mu.com/ > Interview in Playboy (Jan 2003 apparently) about the forthcoming Nymphomatriarch album on Hymen.
Aaron Funk, who has recorded several CDs on the Planet Mu label as Venetian Snares, is on the verge of a breakthrough for electronic funk. Together with his girlfriend, Rachael Kozak (who performs under the alias Hecate), he is at work on an album created exclusively from samples recorded during sex. "People I've played it for don't believe it," says Funk. "They're like, 'No, no, no - you've sampled high hats there, I know it.' It's essentially alchemy, shaping sex into a new form." The couple recorded directly to minidisc during a European tour and captured the sounds of anal and oral sex, bondage, caning, spanking and microphone insertion. Funk says, "It's weird to deconstruct the sounds of sex. It makes you conscious of a lot of stuff you'd normally ignore. I remember thinking, Shit, like, oh, that slap will make a good snare drum. Or, Wow, that was a freakish set of grunts and moans - I want to make that into a choir later." So far the duo has completed a few songs - including Hymen Tramp Choir, Pervs and Blood on the Rope - that play with the genres of breakbeat, ambient and dub. A full-length CD, Nymphomatriarch, will be released this spring on Hymen Records. "I like to listen to sex when I'm having sex," Funk says. Soon you can hear his sex, too.

Date: 12-07-02 01:15 rachael said yeah, i thought this album was quite a trip to make,in different cities, different fucked up situations...actually i have no idea why we even starting recording, but good thing we did. unfortunately, i was in the hospital when this journalist needed all the questions answered. i think it was the first time aaron ever made an album with someone else in his studio, both of us learned alot making this one... getting the sub bass was the hardest job, but the hits and snares were easy...in fact, thats about the only way you could ever get "diva" sounds out of me..heh... should be cool, and the packaging will rock.

I think the most discusting samples I've ever heard are the shitsounds on coil's "sewage worker's birthday party"
guess they went a bit far with the "turn shit into gold" thing :)
But when you don't know what it is that you're hearing it isn't so special. The same thing goes for the vsnares album I suspect...

Drukqs was trying to be 1/3 breakcore. it fell short 'cos arron had beaten all that break shit 2 years ago. Check Venetian snares trax. The last time I saw richard was at a Venetian snares set and he was humbled.

okey, so aphex basicly listend to venetian and then he wantde to be like him and thought he would do an album with exactly 1/3 breakcore and the rest filled with undefined content. hmm, i guess he failed when he added those piano type tracks and blew the magic 1/3 ratio.. er? you have a great insight to the workings of Aphex mind mr JitterDick..

Have you checked 'Satie'? All the pathetic piano pieces from drukqs don't come close to the emotion. The whole thing of the 'Piano' in Saties things wasn't the instrument, it's what notes you don't press not what you do. there is not any resolve in his structures so it leaves you hanging. Drukqs piano gave you everything you need. did you want Richard to elaborate on the drukqs melodies or were you happy/content with how they were?

no, i have not listend to 'Satie'. heard allot of talk about him but im not really that a hardcore piano fan. the pieces on drukqs where quite nice but they where defently not the best on moments of the album imo, but i was quite content with them.
what has that got to do with anything? what its to you? are you getting ready to judge me or what? do you think you are cooler then the regular idm nerd just because you like venetian snares more then you like aphex?
