tis be olde but soo goode..

A US bulk emailer is threatening legal action after
so-called "anti-spammers" signed him up for lots of junk
mail.

Detroit Free Press tech columnist Mike Wendland reported
last week that Alan Ralsky is now experiencing what it likes
to be flooded with unwanted correspondence. Mr Ralsky has
the capacity to send a billion emails a day and has made a
fortune doing it.

Now, he's receiving sacks of paper post, brochures, and
catalogues [AOL CDs? Ed] after being signed up for all
manner of junk mail - and he ain't happy.

He told the DFP: "They've signed me up for every advertising
campaign and mailing list there is. These people are out of
their minds. They're harassing me."

Some people have already pointed out the delicious irony in
this situation made all the more sweeter because of Mr
Ralsky's apparent distress.

And who are the anti-spammers? The heroes of the hour
hatched the plot on Slashdot, with spam haters posting
Ralsky's address and "even an aerial view of his
neighborhood".

i also read about this company getting sued, because their
ad "faked" a real virus warning. you've probably seen it:
"your PC may be infested with viruses".

hahahaha

you know what, i want the tosers who think those ads were
real to burn just as much as I want the wankers who create
the popups to burn.

I dunno who's dumber :)

"The suit seeks to enjoin Bonzi from sending such ads in the
future. It also asks for punitive relief, including $500 to
every person who was received a deceptive ad from the
company, and for the company to pay $5 for every banner it
has delivered with the warning messages"

734Million multiplied by $500 :o

I dont have enough brain cells let alone fingers to count
that..

I don't want to get involved in any 'flame' war, but
comments like that aren't needed. Simply because someone
isn't as web/computer savvy as you doesn't make them
deserving of your scorn.
Clearly the people responsible for these pop-up ads are not
stupid. They're taking advantage of those (many) people out
there who are still not familiar enough with this technology
to recognise spam. Taking advantage of the 'stupidity' (as
you call it) of others. And while it's true that some of
these poeple are thick as piggy-poo, that's only due to the
law of averages, not all of them are. Out of any given cross
section of the population you're bound to get people of a
lower IQ than others. My dad is an intelligent man, but show
him a mouse and hasn't the remotest idea what to do with
it.

yeah it was pretty uncalled for, but I'm in a rather happy
mood

I did mean to offend, but not come as as a holyer than
though approach, appologies if it seemed that way.
---------------------------------------------
I still think common sense would remove most problems in our
society, including this one.

True, though these spammers are getting more and more wiley,
deliberately to catch those people who simply don't know any
better - not cos of lack of common sense, but simply cos
they're not aware of the methods of delivering spam or able
to recognise it when it pops up in front of their
spreadsheets or whatever.

Anyway, aah didn't meeyan t'bring y'mood down y'all :)

yeah I thought it was a bit rough...especially if you have
actually encountered one of those pop ups..some of the
JavaScript alert ones dont go away until you click on
them..they jam your machine..
