UNITED Airlines Bankrupt!

Yep, the second largest airline in American filed for
Chapter 11 today.

Cash burn rate is pegged around $22million a day.

Unions are going to be forced for more pay concessions,
fleet is going to shrink, and routes will be cut.

Should fall to #3 carrier behind Delta.

word on the street is also that US Airways, currently in
Chapter 11, will cease operations and be liquidated soon if
some more concessions aren't made.
------------------------

most airline buffs saw this comming months ago, but it is
just funny to watch the arogant and might fall so fucking
hard. Fuck you United, hope Boeing repos your 777s.

i'm an airline employee.....and i would never wish United or
any other airline ill.

it's bad in so many ways.....but especially for YOU.....the
public. less competition means higher prices. and so many
people in the industry have already lost their jobs.

it's a terrible thing...i for one hope they get it together
and the union makes concessions so as many people can keep
working as possible.

=/

My life revolves around airplanes. Hence the interest in
the UA bankrupcy.

what airline do you work for?

Lots of people have lost their jobs, National and Vangaurd
are recent victims, plus Sabena, Swiss is now reorganized.

VG Airlines just lost their AOC, Air Holland is supposed to
be on the verge.

B6 and WN are the only kids still making money. Interesting
times for all, but it's obvious airlines like Continental
would jump all over UAs DEN hub, and all the airlines would
gladdly soak up the capacity increases.

yes i do.......lets just say it's the ONE airline that is
not having $$ problems.

and yes, i am a FLIGHT ATTENDENT......no other word is
acceptable =b

anyway......it's a very sad day for those in the INDUSTRY,
the only good thing that will happen is that they (meaning
united) will learn to run a TIGHT ship. thats how our
airline keeps afloat.

fleet- no, but it's my main passion in life

*my money is that LeCoeur works for WN*

uhm, what?

FF miles or other awards are the only way to get a free
flight.

There were recent internet fuck ups by United, where they
sold F class tix for like $14, when they would normally be
~$3000, they honored them.

No free rides though.

btw: I love your airline.

Friendly people, timely service, and man, 20 min turns in
the tightest conditions.

Flying home PDX-OAK this weekend, always look forward to the
flights, 737s get old for a nut like me, but still, can't
beat WN with a spoon.

eggactly.....or if you're a smart shopper......shop ahead!

anyway.....i dread going to work tamale.....twill be somber,
especially during this time of the year. everyone will be
worried if they will have a job. i'm still crossing my
fingers that the 4th quarter will be profitable for
us...it's been rumored that it may not be .....first time in
30 yrs......iccccck

oh and Mousey.....planes are referred to like ships.....cept
we don't name them, and they usually aren't she's.....tee
hee

and yes......you guys are sexist piglets....spills HOT
coffee on you.....ooopsie......sowwie

hey, don't worry about 4Q, all I hear *and it's all I do all
day*
is 30 years of profits will continue.

There have been a few Quarters when WN didn't make money,
but every year managment keeps it in the black.

and don't worry about your job! you guys are hiring!!!!
*yes I should work for an airline, I understand that......*

Sorry about all the questions.

Where are you based anyway? iirc you are from Florida no?

thanks i do too........thats how we were able to make it in
the beginning....we barely had any airplanes....so we had to
turn in 20 minutes to make the most of the planes we did
have.

i have a picture with good ole Herbie.

i fly LAX/PHX/LAS/ABQ/OAK/SJC/SEA mostly

you guys still have the highest utilation rate for your
planes of any major in the country.

New interiors are very nice as well, very clean and modern
looking. Dunno about the new "Canyon Blue" livery. When it
looks blue it is nice, but it more often looks purple.

I miss the 737-200s though, they don't come around here
anymore :(
-----------------
Sorry about all this, I am so excited. I am going to end up
asking you tons of questions about WN, man, this is the
coolest thing ever.

i'm based in PHX, but i don't live there!

it's all you do all day? what do you study?

i'm not worried about peepz on our airlines........my
friends that work for OTHERS.....thats the sad stuff.

we are hiring in some areas......but some areas are
frozen....until things pick up. i'm just glad our flights
are full for the most part!

I study when I can, but my degree can wait :)

I have my priorities crooked, but that's the way I like it.

-------------------
I don't know how other companies are going to make it
either, B6 even is going to get in trouble as they start
paying more for their A320 mx.

what is the other airline you think might go under? Rumors
make the world go round :)

i HATE the lounges in the 200's ....uugghgh

all the party people think they can sit there and get
drunk.....uughghgh

i'm glad they are phasing those OUT.

i love our new colours......the TEXASS colours have to
gooooo.....ehehhe.....we still have our red
bellies......which to me is the thing i look up and see when
planes fly overhead....i know it's one of ours.

we've always run a tight ship....thats why we're still in
business. we only fly where there are lots of people....not
these unprofitable routes that the 'others' fly.....we're
just smarter than other airlines........it's just the facts
man!

Northwest

they are pulling out of my local airport =/

plus FA's have been asking me if we're hiring......NOT a
good sign!

:(

There managment is damn conservative too.

DC-9s are going to be around till 100,000 hours!

I can see them consolidating routes, but they have a pretty
strong cash position as they own most of their planes.

Asian loads have been great and they have been having a ball
hauling the extra cargo from the longshormen havoc that was
on the west coast.

Finally investing in new aircraft, their A330s come early
next year and they are still taking 757-300s.
-----------
Are they fully pulling out of your local, or are they
letting Mesa take over?

again, sorry about all the questions, but I can't pass up
the opportunity to ask you everything :)

WE are taking over in my local.....not mesa.....ahhahahha

mesa's vomit comets are hell-atious to fly in.....uughghhg

we make OUR money from freight as well.....always
have.....thats how we can offer flights from LAX/LAS for 19
bucks each way....i mean come on...you can't even drive for
that price!!!

true
alcohol is evil

the organisating on sas flights i have been on has been so
horrible. they walk people in the plane, then out the plane,
then try to count that there is the right amount of people,
then list the people etc etc

trama, trauma, same thing :)

no, the point was they had to walk people out of the plane,
and some people wanted to change flight since the flight was
so late and it led to a total chaos.

this is not the only chaos sas has caused. i really hope
your line is better :)

air travel is very safe.....you should feel safer in the air
than in a car. it's been statiscally proven. even with all
they hijacking going on.

there was a program on discovery the other day about the 747
from boeing.....amazing aircraft. i was able to sit in the
cockpit for landing in sydney australia.....smoothest
landing in my life....and quite a different view than what
i'm used to =0)
