um, def leopard is probably the oldest crappy crap I was
actually into. + average stuff that was popular because it
gets promoted a lot, chili peppers etc. blind melon was
good.

yea weird al has some really funny songs (parodies and
originals). plus his band's pretty talented if they can
recreate other people's music of vastly different genres. of
course, i haven't listened to that album in several years,
i'm just saying i respect al for doing what he does.

true... but i don't really consider him a serious artist
that actually cares about making innovative music... just
personal preference... i dunno... imho al, just puts new
lyrics on music that's already been created... not worthy
like err... let's say... "Bucephalus Bouncing Ball" or
Karlheinz Stockhausen's - "Studie 1"

not all good music is serious though.

al obviously cares about his craft. he wouldn't have devoted
25 years of his life to recording his music if he was in it
for the money (do you really think people buy this stuff in
large numbers?) or even for the novelty of it. he does it
cos it's fun and it makes people happy. if he wanted to be
sloppy about it he'd put an album out full of parodies of
any random hit from the past few months. instead he labors
over albums for years, picking only the songs he can have
the utmost fun with.

it's as unfair to compare al to stockhausen as it is to
compare orbital to beethoven. i mean, really, if you're
going to argue something at least pick relevant comparisons.
i'm not denying you the right to dislike weird al, but at
least make a compelling argument for why his music is
worthless. it may not be academic like autechre but to many
people it's just as pleasurable to listen to, if not more
so.
