Anyone Like Funkstrong?

Ellies on 2001-09-05 07:37 [#00029529]

Or just think it's a aphex rip ?

I really like them from what I heard of their song samples.
I'll be buying their albums definately. Didn't sound like
aphex rip off really, I don't think.

Freefone from Scotland on 2001-09-05 18:33 [#00029652]

actually i don't think anyone ever accused them of ripping
off aphex, people normally regard them as inferior autechre
clones ripping off chiastic slide then sticking some vocals
on top.

hey Freefone, you live in Scotland, if you knew where Boards
of Canada lived Id pay you to go around to their place and
kick them in the ass and yell at them till their new album
comes out.

I heard boc is busy teaching homeless kids Ti Chi...
I wasnt inopressed with the ep they released. it didnt
really satisfy my.

evolume from seattle, washington, usa on 2001-09-06 18:40 [#00029869]

i wasnt that impressed withthat BOC ep either. but i do kind
of find that religous community in the country song kind of
comforting.... that e.p. was very much like seefeel. if you
have heard seefeel you know what i'm talking about.

I like em too..but I really think it's time to put the
autehre/aphex rip off slam to rest..everybody's got to start
somewhere..who among us isn't inspired by the two brilliant
A's..aey? I think funkstorung has really evolved...far less
quirky than aphex..and a lot more organic and warm sounding
than the cold, hard technical brilliance of autechre..I mean
come on a lot of early autechre sounds like aphex but look
at em now..

I would have to totally second that.. plus - upon closer
listening, Funkstörung definetly have their own style - and
as f.l.e.a. mentioned above, in some ways the warm/organic
feel they produce (may) in fact be more desirable than the
cold and sterile landscapes of Autechre (not that these in
themselves are bad at all! - )
