I had to start a seperate post just to disagree with this guy.
"1. Gantz Graf is musicless (but 3rd track) 2. Incunabula and Amber are great, no less than wonderful Confield, and if Ae want to make something like that again,
we can only hold our breath... They've been rotting down their music for a while. Gantz Graf is like a step backward
to all those dying AFX and everyone. (Yes AFX is dying slowly, see DrukQs for more). They sacrifice music to the beasts of harsh chaos electro thingies floating around. Take
Peel Sessions 2. There are only two good tracks, and they're
super good, that's because they HAVE music inside. And the other two are only good in the state of 2-sec loops, to which you listen and think 'yeah, that'd make a fucking nice
hardcore song, but where are those melodies we love Ae for'.
GG is primitive. As is a smaller part of Confield. I mean, they just HAD to put some beautiful melodic stuff there, but
they didn't. And the rest of elements just aren't self-sufficient"
OH MY GOD I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO SUPRISED AT SOMEONE FROM THIS BOARD. you don't have to like this stuff but you sure as hell better give it the due respect.
"they just HAD to put some beautiful melodic stuff there, but
they didn't. "
who says they had to? I like the way they do everything they do because they do it differently. I have only ever disliked maybe 1 or 2 autechre songs.
you just want some more conventional dog crap I think.

"which you listen and think 'yeah, that'd make a fucking nice
hardcore song"
why would I want autechre to make a hardcore song out of their already good music?
I mean maybe bucephalus bouncing ball would have been better with some rapping over it? or maybe some reggae steel drums in the boy/girl song? wow that would suck ass.

maybe if you get bored you could go back over gantz graf and record your own 4 on the floor beat overtop the whole thing. and then open up fruityloops ts404 and make some "hella wicked bad" melodies to mix in with it too. We all want copies when you're done.

dum dum. i have to admit that i partly agree.
autechre just is not going to a better direction for me. i wont say it's cause the melodies but i sure did like incunabula and amber best
(peel sessions 2 is great too)
but then again, i have never heard ganx graf, nd confield has been very slow to open to me

I think the only reply is this:
Artists like Autechre/Aphex/Aquarepusher have proved that they are capable of (i was gonna say anything but what I mean is) making beautiful and chaotic music. You may have fallen in love with a particular song or sound of theirs.
They have chosen to release what they want to in their wisdom, if you don't like it it's not because they have failed, but you haven't connected at this juncture.
that is all.

I agree. they are constantly changing and evolving.. don't forget they make music about 24 hours a day, so they make TONS.. each time they release something, its like 1 to 2 years old for them..
and to get back to "guy's" statements..
"1. Gantz Graf is musicless (but 3rd track)"
oh dear. here we go again. first we have to debate 'what is music' - to me: organised sounds, to Guy probably: it has a toon I can dance to!
even then, gg HAS a tune!! its most prevalent in the first 30 seconds, but still there after that.
if you can't appreciate gg for the pure soundtextures and dynamics, you're probably lost to this one..

Melodies THIS music THAT! Yada yada yada...
Im into it for the whicked audio trickery and innovating experimitations , soundscapes and details.
Melodies sure , but melodies is certanly not all. And the melodies is not what made me get into autechre in the first place.
Btw , why does so many people say GG has no melodies? are you deff !?!?

but alot of people herre, i think, got into the Amber Autechre and simply dislike the sound of the new songs. too much of a leap forr them. i love an arrtist to move forrwarrd and develop theirr sound but if you don't like it, ya don't.

i always get this feeling like there is a certain sound missing-the one that would make a certain track wonderful
for example-murcofs martes album sounds a lot like autechre to me (tehnically), and i totally love it because it has very "warm" sounds
hehe, cant explain better than that :)

I don't listen to music for one general emotion, be it "warmth" or "cold".. ae's tracks have both and a lot of other impressions and emotions (well, I have a lot and I project them on their music..) which flex and reform much like gantz graf sounds on a basic sound level.
