For a truly mighty record with a vaguely similar vibe check out "Sakura" by Susumu Yokota on Leaf / Skintone records.
Sakura means flower in Japanese, by the way, and it is a truly lovely record. A bit more busy and beaty than SAWII but a similar kind of "disconnected" kind of feel to parts of it (but without the trapped under ice freaky bits..)
Anyone else a fan of this guy or this record??

I havent heard of Tujiko Noriko - but if it sounds like Bjork I might try and give it a miss... Has nobody else noticed Bjork has been making the same record since 1994... Not to get off topic though.
Another Japanese recomendation - more Jazzy and housey though - Chari Chari.

he's my favourite musician sakura is my favourite album and kodomotachi is my favourite track
the boy and the tree album is brilliant as well, it just took me a little longer to get into it
i never listened to house before, but i like yokotas house albums as well :)
what is great about him is that he is releasing lots of records (unlike some other artists hehe) and they're all brilliant

Yeah I think kodomotachi is my favourite track as well - it means "children" in Japanese, by the way (maybe you already know that, since the sample goes:
sons to aging aging children comes sons to aging
What the feck does that mean?

DJ Krush is excellent, especially his Ki-Oku album with Toshinori Kondo.
This album sounds interesting, although the "trapped under ice freaky bits" were integral to SAW2's vibe.

Hey Zaphod, I wasnt criticising the freaky bits of SAWii ( I love it ) just meant that that isnt really a record to listen to every day, it is something specific for a specific mood, wheras "sakura" is something you can listen to and appreciate its beauty on whatever level you feel like without having to really get too much into it if you dont want to...
do you know what i mean? Check that record out, though, really.

hmm, i'd say its more "organic"(im not sure its the right expression hehe)
it doesnt sound as electronic as sakura or grinning cat, much more traditional japanese sounds-instruments i'd say
it sounded a little confusing when i first heard it, but now im totally into it
