(i bet i get sweet F.A replies to this....)

On "Alive in Japan", which by the way, i think is truly
truly awesome and much neglected on this board, i have made
several observations....

1) I wonder what the crowd are laughing at before "Greenways
Trajectory"? Tom making faces?

2) The untitled track reminds me of the RDJ/Cylob Oz gig...
especially the quite low synth pads in the background

3) The way he stretches "My fucking sound"´... the "I´m
the fucking daddy" vocal ........is mind blowing .

4) The way he slows down "The Exploding Psychology" is
sweet

5) the start of "Boneville Occident" is great... especially
as its the end of the "easier" tracks and the beginning of
totall mindfuckology!

6) Ending with "Angstrom Feck 4" after that aforementioned
mind melting mash-up session is perfecto bloody mundo

7) "Time to go full speed!!!!!!!!!!" is grerat

8) "Is it loud enough do you think" is real nice

9) The guy is way too underated here and nowhere near
fucking appreciated enough.... the richness off his tunes,
the amount of drumloops he uses and it works, the melodies,
the momentum, the qulity of the sound samples.... the
emotion being forced through the hardware........ its the
definition of what punk is... just happens to be
electronic.
hats off to THE SQUAREPUSHER..

You are a true trainspotter, Keyfumbler. But I am happy
someone could extract something worthwile out of that CD.

any other - positive - observations?

Um, no, no, I believe you know my opinion on this disc: not
as much a ripoff as waste of time...

Well, I'm glad someone finally stood up for the
Square-pooo-schaaah. I love this disc, but it really only
works as a whole for me. I have to listen to it all the way
through... but when it gets to Greenways, oh yeah.... you
know what I'm talking about.

On a separate note of pedantry: shouldn't it be
minutiae since your list addresses more than one
aspect of Alive?

i just don´t understand that sentiment!

Name one live electronica set available that displays the
live rawness of this?

Have you not heard the RDJ sets available online? (the re
was loads on Joyrex). It´s what it is all about... big
fucking speakers, nasty electronics, a crowd to twist into
a gibbering mess

offline Meho Krljic from Beograd (Yugoslavia) on 2002-12-04 06:04 [#00467711]
Points: 6617 Status: Addict

Are you talking to me? If yes, then, no, I haven't heard
RDJ's live sets and I find Tom's set to be like listening to
"Go Plastic" from another room with japanese crowd cheering.
Not really fun.

yep, meho... i wastalking to ya.
Do you like GP then? You mustn´t have loved it or
you´d defo appreciate Toms live tweeking.

martinhm.. thanks for the correction but, as the name
says.... !!! Plus, yeah.. it is a whole experience for sure.
To randomlt select tracks would be interesting but would
pinch the flow of energy somewhat i suspect

I love Go Plastic. My favourite SQUAREPUSHER release. But
the tweaking that he does on the live disc is minimal.
Arguably, that's cool if you're at the actual spot, but not
that cool if you're listening to the recording. Well, in
your case, you found it amusing enough, so that's good for
you.

offline KEYFUMBLER from DUBLIN (Ireland) on 2002-12-04 07:55 [#00467766]
Points: 5696 Status: Lurker

i suppose that is that then!

I just think a tiny bit of imagination and you are in total
ecstacy elbowing tokyo folks left right and center........As
for the tweeking being minimal........ theres a lot more to
it when you get right into it, i think. ..... can´t leave
ya with the last word i´m afraid!

Haha, that's fine by me. I am happy that someone can
appreciate and enjoy the music that I find boring. Means
that there is a purpose for that music after all.

Huh, not intoxicating to me, no. But all the same, as I
said, i am happy for you.

Tolstoyed, you are surely kidding: that song is a Joy
Division cover.

You are winding me up, right?

But I am a sucker,, so here: Joy Division were one of the
most important post-punk/ new wave/ pop/ whatever bands from
the late 70s. Their music was a combination of punk's lo-fi
aesthetics and pop-sensibility. Their singer Ian Curtis was
a torture, haunted figure, unhappy and a tad psychotic. He
hung himself when he was I think 20 or 19 (I am sure there
are UK people on this MB who can tell this story way beter
than me). The rest of the band renamed themselves New Order
and the rest is history.

Nor am I, nor am I. My girlfriend, however is all
head-over-heels about New Order. She just can't seem to
appreciate my enthusiasm for abstract electronica and
satanic black metal...

Have you heard that Rollingstones are finally coming to
Beograd? Serbia is trembling with anticipation, haha.

They are all over soulseek, man, look for them. one is
called High, live and dirty and the other is just Matmos,
Wobbly and People like us live together.

I have a shitty connection here and no ftp available, so,
thanks, but I couldn't get it anyway. I would love to hear
those, anyway.

No, Matmos is on Matador at the moment, though they have
some of the stuff on Tigerbeat6 too. However, these two live
albums are practically unavailable except by downloading off
soulseek. High Live and Dirty can be bought only in three
shops in the whole world, here's some info on that one:

DYKS was disappointing for me as it wasn't brilliant all the
way through, i hate tracks 5 and 6 but the rest is boss.
Tracks 1 and 4 no comment needed. 2 and 3 also excellent,
but 5 and 6 are shite and I don't really see the point in
track 7.
The live CD is great though!
Listened to the whole thing with headphones on a couple of
weeks ago lying in bed late at night, it was mental!
