does anyone know any good composers, of soundcollages, or
ambient music.

But not like IDM.

I dont really know a difference... but I guess like, im
talking about people more in the "avant garde" scene, ala
john cage style. make sense?

thanks :)

ranging from 1930's theramin up to 70's computer music

acctually... i wonder what the difference is?

i guess its all marketing...

like, IDM is marketed more to the general public, and youth,
and Eno, Cage kinda stuff, is more aimed at the
"intellectuals" and the "sophisticated" coffee house types?

i could be way off. I dunno.

Check out Steve Reich-Electronic counterpoint for example.
Fully orchestral but sounds electronic through excellent
orchestration and repetition...

I dont know what IDM is. People told me it's the main
'label' that's put on all alternative electronic music.
People told me they liked my IDM-music.
I was confused. I didn't know.
I've discovered a problem with myself.
I make IDM???

confusing...

i have heard the OHM compilation... i downloaded the mp3s...
but i didnt have the booklet, so i couldnt read about the
artists...

but i was asking more about contemporary artists. But in the
same genre as Cage and Eno.... make sense?

john cage isn't really ambient but the most ambient thing of
his i guess is i"in a landscape" piano pieces - idm is a
silly titel so i don't know - eno is intelligently
constructed electronic music that he called ambient because
of his theories on it's use -
steve reivh and philip glass did some music you can sit down
and relax to -
thomas koner is very good and so are the "ambient metal
"band earth

buy the bloody cd so you can read about the composers !
it's nothard to find - when you download soething like that
you miss all the context and can't really discover anymore
about it except by probing other people at websites like
this! :)

yeah but lets face it - planet mu has only got 2 people
working for it and rephlex only three - warp hasnn't got
many as well and they're all run by people who do it just
cos they love music so in the case of independent labels
they don't really mae alot of cash i think...
but when you can afford to give robby williams 80 million
then things are a bit fucked up!

This might be something you'll need to search in their
homepage but Hearts of Space - www.hos.com may have some.

Steve Roach and Hanyo Van Oostrum are pretty good.
