I went to a music analyzing class held by a movie music composer. It was pretty awesome. He really could analyze music, like, he had checked out lots of beatles and could tell things about john lennon and paul mccartney. he also showed us how delicately precise the theme from dallas is, u know, how they made people realize whats going on before they happen and such. someone with the interest really should analyse some electronic music like afx or squarepusher, cause that guy made me understand (better) that the music nothing but reflects what the author think and feel.
did some with my own cds and its amazing how i can sort of make out what i though like ages ago.

i reckon i definitely get a vibe from AFX and Squarepushers music.. not above or beyond how anyone else feels about it, but something really special anyway.
Of course, it´s a complicated process - how we interpret stuff... most of it based on ourselves, the listener, rather than what the musician has put into it.
But for me,these artists, from the actually quality of the sound they use, to the composition, the timing, speed etc i just feel i "get" the whole thing. Most of their tracks feel like complete entities, perfect but also dynamic and changing. There is alsways something new to hear in an old track. They conjure deep feelings in me, they speak to me, i suppose. Most stuff seems crap after a good dose of SP or AFX. Its like comparing a film like "2001" to "Armageedon" , comparing these guys with most stuff out there. Plus you can dance to it!!!

I think part of the appeal of the more abstract types of music (like we lsiten to) is that you can read whatever you like into it- see what you like...

exactly.. as the Twin hit the nail on the head one time..... lyrical songs, while can be brilliant, are by their nature quite static as they promote a singualr idea or feeling (usually) which makes them fixed and seem quite rigid compared to non lyrical tunes which reflect oftentimes the mood of the listener......
i´d love to see a music professor type guy, a boffin or someone who knows their stuff technically, from ancient greek music to thrash metal, analyse AFX and Squarepusher........... i´d be very happy with an academic recogniton of these great artists (not that i NEED it, just interested)
