NIN / TTA Collaboration

Who here has heard the Danny Lohner / Telefon Tel Aviv
remix of NIN's "Where Is Everybody?" on the "Things Falling
Apart" album [halo sixteen]? I think it's a really great
track; it's great to hear two really groundbreaking artists
in two different genres working together.

if you like this, they also remixed 2 a perfect circle songs
together (judas and 3 libras) and an eminem song (the way i
am with added vocals by marilyn manson).

and just so you know, it's not really "nin and tta." it's
danny lohner (trent reznor's live band member and
collaborator on some songs on the fragile and still) and
joshua eustis (1/2 of tta).

i asked tta's label (hefty records) if danny and josh would
be doing an album together and he said not that he's aware
of.

Things Falling Apart is one of NIN's worst releases. If
anyone wants to buy my copy, the bidding starts at 2 cents +
postage.

i'll bid that. i already own it but i can give it to my
girlfriend who doesn't and would enjoy it. it's a great
release. the only tracks i'm not too fond of are the great
collapse and the remix of the wretched.

i bid 2 cents plus $2 for postage. let me know if i win.

The liner notes of "Things Falling Apart" ep [which I do
own; I just got it] say that the track is "manipulated by
Danny Lohner featuring Telefon Tel Aviv." Then it says it
was produced by Danny Lohner, Joshua Eustis, and Charles
Cooper.

I disagree about TFA being one of NIN's worst releases. I
think a lot of NIN's stuff is hit or miss and this is
actually one of my favorites.

that track is incredible, i like the way they cut up the
sounds.

i really didnt enjoy tfa though, the starfuckers remixes are
pretty deceiving. it's the only nin release i regretted
buying.

wasnt aware tta remixed a perfect circle, ill be sure to
check that out!

are you just a dick by nature or what? with all your michael
moore teachings you ought to be a little more compassionate
toward people.

do you notice I'm from Brazil, by the way? with import
costs, it would cost me nearly twice as much to get that cd.
it wouldn't be $5 for me.

Smyrma: whoops, you're right.. thanks for pointing that
out(!). the APC and Manson remixes are just DL and Joshua,
that's why i got confused.

CORTEX: what about the last track, the charlie clouser
remix? that song makes my head spin! i love the intro, which
i would describe as ambient, then it kicks off into this
crazy coil style fucked up beat with chopped vocals.. ahh,
it's so great. the adrien sherwood remix is not impressive.
the rave ogilvie remix is INTERESTING, but not "great."

wait, i'm the dick by nature? you're the one who's been
starting shit with me for no reason since you got here. for
all i knew you could've just been bidding against me out of
spite, and when he emailed you you would have balked on the
item.

how are you not a dick by nature? you called him an idiot
for a completely unfounded reason. suppose he wants that
album and can't get it in his own country like he said?

i guess you just don't want to admit that possibility so you
don't seem like such a fool.

when did i call him an idiot? you're another person who has
been starting shit with me for no reason (re: bowling for
columbine thread). fuck off.

offline Elastic from Zidum (Kiribati) on 2002-11-08 15:37 [#00433630]

you're so childish. you claim you say all these rude things
to people ("braniac") to "evoke conversation", can't you
just admit you're an asshole?

...

offline Elastic from Zidum (Kiribati) on 2002-11-08 15:38 [#00433632]

it only cost $5 to begin with, braniac

nooo... that's not insulting for no reason at all! gosh i
was mistaken, you're such a kind, open-minded, accepting,
loving person.

so he out-bid you, if you need the album so badly, out-bid
him. don't start insulting people out of your own spite and
arrogance. what good does that do?

call me an asshole, i'm glad -- but i'm not continuing this
"discussion."

And the funny thing is...

I was kidding, I'm not selling it. I just expected a lot
more from a NIN remix cd; Further Down The Spiral, Fixed,
Closer, all set the bar so high. I did like Metal and 10
Miles High a lot, but those weren't remixes. Reznor needed
to recruit some better talent to do the mixes. I mean you
can't go from the likes of Aphex Twin, Coil and Foetus to
Lohner, TTA and Hillebrandt and expect the results to be on
par with previous work.

i don't think TFA is that much inferior, personally. i think
it's better than HLAH. perhaps you just didn't like the
fragile as much as broken and TDS and thus the remixes don't
appeal as much?

i agree about needing to recruit more remixers, tho telefon
tel aviv was an excellent touch. when the fragile first came
out, for fun i decided to make a fake remix tracklisting. i
put it on my page, here's the link (i haven't updated it
since 1999):

sorry for the popups

it would... i would kind of like to see vsnares remix
starfuckers though :x wait, i'd like to hear it. watching it
would probably be pretty boring. but it would be pretty
interesting
