New Sigur Ros Opinions [SPOILER]

[SPOILER ALERT: don't read if you havn't heard the new cd
yet and want to wait before knowing anything]

I actually found the new cd pretty boring. I don't know
where to start really. The whole cd was very dark and
morbib. If Agaetis was angelic and filled with beautiful
landscapes of meadows and coastal regions, ( ) was dark and
filled with dispair...not giving much to the user
landscape-wise. It was pretty gothic sounding to me...and
that was a bad thing.

To much emphasis on fancy drumming nearly drew me to stop
the cd. That was one aspect I got really sick of soon; way
too much fancy tom / cymbal work. It got really boring
fast. Minimal piano. Minimal string arrangements. His
voice wasn't as good and most of the songs you really
coulnd't sing on the way home from work...if you didn't want
to look like you were screaming to yourself that is. The
only redeming part of the whole cd is the epic last
song...where it takes the listener into quite a complicated
drum section in the latter part doing an almost drill n bass
/ speed drumming number.

There wasn't enough snare in my opinion. If you like the
sound of brush drumming you'll be in heaven cause thats
pretty much all you'll find on here.

The whole cd, despite sounding extremely linked together,
was really awful and I cannt recommend this cd to anyone!
Agaetis was so much to me both musically and
emotionally...this one just seems really...not there.

What a disappointment...

i completely and utterly disagree with you. but i see where
you're coming from. it is sort of repetitive, but i still
find it to be far better than Agaetis Bjurnim. plus, i found
it to be very conducive to image producing etc. Great album,
4 out of 4 stars.

i felt the same way at first...but listen to it more often
and you'll start to appreciate it alot more ( well at least
i did)

Anyway...Sigur Ros...that's like so two days ago...It's all
about the new GYBE!

i feel the same way as hewhocannotbena... was dissapointed
when i listened to it for the 1st time, but it definitly
grew on me. It's more minimal than Agaetis, but once it
grabs you, just as emotionally moving.

I actually think i'm not going to bother with the new GYBE!
(or GY!BE). When i bought their first album i thought it was
the most amazing thing i ever heard. Then i bough the ep...
and it was just more of the same, but okay... still great
music, i enjoyed it.
Then i bought the 3rd cd, and it were just four more of the
same kind of songs. It gets so predictable! The first time i
heard GYBE it felt new and exciting, now i can predict how
their songs are gonna end when i hear the first few seconds.
They haven't evolved even a little bit... shame.

I read the new album was pretty much the same formula all
over again... i'm just gonna skip it. It's kind of like
buying the same album for the 4th time.

yeah.. '( )' is a grower

i got bored with it the first listen too
its definitely different from agaertis byrjun.. at first
listen it seems inferior..but after a while, you'll begin to
appreciate it as its own album

it seems expectations ruin too many good albums for people..
im sure if '( )' was released first, people would have been
disappointed with agaertis byrjun as a followup ..and you
could probably say that for a lot of albums

I will say it's a grower aswell. At first i was disappointed
but I kept needed to hear it agian. It calls to me. I think
his voice is so much better. It is so smooth.

Though, I completely see where you are coming from
Amonbrune. A lot of rythmic drumming.
