Anti-Ep? Someone please explain...

So Autechre's Anti-EP was made to protest some kind of
"Non-repetitive beats" law? I'm unclear... what is this law
all about? Was it just for live performances? Is it still in
effect?

Another thing... the ep says "Containts Non-Repetitive
Beats" but 2/3 beats were repetive on the cd...

It's all so confusing...

its do to with legislation which was brought in to stop
illegal raves. that's about all i know. the only autechre
release i really like.

okay all the tracks except Flutter contain REPETATIVE beats.

the law was there agianst raves or something and the big
guys probably didn't want raves. i had a proper explaination
somehwere but i lost it....

but yeah, anti-ep is about protest.

okay, so on the two cds themselves and in the booklet,
there's printed text that says "incomplete without surface
noise."...

what the hell does that mean? always wondered about that

it means it has to sound shit to sound good. it's their
excuse for it not being very good, so if you don't like it
you can't get your money back. it's like a disclaimer.

lol! thats one of their sayings along with "Pleasure is our
business" that was on the side of their Incunabula cd.

its meaning probably relates to the vinyl version where
you'll get that pop n hiss. in the end that noise would
bring a new dimention to the music that a cd would never
give

noise' on a tshirt

Thanks for the info...
Earth, Come now, can you really listen to Clipper off Trip
Rep and say that it isnt very good?
To be honest, I love every single Autechre release except
for the Anti-Ep... it's pretty lackluster in comparison to
most of thier work, but it does have its moments. I really
hate the way song 2 starts.. ugh...

in interviews when asked on which format their music should
be listened to, ae said that cd comes closest to the way
they hear it when recording to DAT.

it would be super underground

"Pfff...cd? i listen to my music on DAT"

and then run off snickering :)

DAT has a much bigger range than cds, talking
frequency-wise.. :)

what they more or less ment, was that if you listen to ae on
cd you more or less hear it the same way they heard it when
making it.

i dont get why this would make DAT better though. as long
as the frenquencies that range from 20Hz to 20,000Hz are
covered, my human ears wont care for a wider range...

not frequence.. sample rate.. cd is 44000 and dat is 48000..
this means the anolog wave form is chopped into 44000 parts
per second.. dats are used that much any more with the
advent of cheap harddrive recording

not used that is... 96000 is the new standard....

Most studios and pro musicians record onto DAT, which is
then used for the cd-pressing. I was so close to buying one
portable DAT a couple of years ago. Cost £799! I'm glad I
didn't, CD-R is just as good at home. I quess the use of
tape is more straight forward than burning onto disc.

There are consumer DAT-players, but DAT is very much a pro
music industry format.
