Can you listen to one of my songs?

m....M..Mw )wW(m M m)Ww( wM..M....m from a bird cage on 2001-08-26 20:57 [#00025940]

The song is "Whiet Zeiela" at my mp3.com site
(mp3.com/artificialselection). I used a new technique and I
want to know if it sounds good to someone else.
Actually, I only want to be showered with praise. Feel free
to use words like "genius, unparallel, superior", etc. you
know, just to make me feel good. On second thought be
honest. Thanks.

I dunno I thought it was a fairly decent song.

cool.. that's a nice effect you managed to pull off. maybe
add some rising and falling strings to flesh it out. :)

wayout from a plastic bubble on 2001-08-27 01:15 [#00025970]

hey, not too bad..i like how it sort of organizes itself out
of chaos towards the middle. what kind of equipment did you
use to make that? and what was the new technique you were
talking about?

ok everyone..i hate to to this but since we're on the topic
of making music....i need some help. i uploaded an
unfinished track to my ampcast site and was looking for some
imput as to where i could go with it,
what does/doesn't work, etc.
the site is:
http://www.ampcast.com/wayout
the track is "amb 1"
i know the sound quality seems a bit shitty...i'm working on
that
thanks for your help.
and keep up the good work artificialselection.

meh...... sorry. not diggin' it. i'm listening to all your
tracks. i'm finding them to be very similar to one another.
not all of them mind you...... i'm not all the way through
the list yet either tho. but i'm liking the one now.....
"'('(...diAgnYtic~p8rplE+ion...)')'"

yeah........... i'll give more imput later. more
descriptive.

Wait, people actually listened. This can't be right... I use
only modplug tracker for all my songs and my "new technique"
is probably just something obvious everyone else knows:
instead of using itty bitty wav files (little drum sounds
etc.), use an entire song as a wav file with other huge wav
files. I think I could use this technique better than this
example song. I kind of understand when people don't like my
music. My equipment is crap too. Thanks all, as a reward for
bothering to listen to a nobody (any behavior that is
rewarded will be repeated) here are some marshmellows for
all of you.

And naturally since everyone else seeks to promote their own
music, I'll be happy *shudders* to listen to any stuff I
havn't heard already. (hmmm... if I listen to M's music,
maybe he'll listen to MINE... heh heh heh.) No, seriously
though. And I'll listen to yours, wayout, too. Also just
repost any links here, because it would be hard to go back
and find them elsewhere if you already posted them.

Sup blokes... if yer bored give me stuff a spin:

http://www.zebox.com/artists/ascdi.html

"1024" has got drums and whatnot. All the tonality is based
on the progression of digits in successive powers of two,
hence title. Gonna follow up once I get yer tunes
downloaded. Lates.

Hey mMWMWMWMwmmwmwMWthe sounds of one of me favorite freeware noisemakers
GranuLab, realtime granular synthesis for Windows, ye gods!
Definitely give it a looky at

http://hem.passagen.se/rasmuse/Granny.htm

Fun stuff. Can't say much about the quality o' the tune
since I only listened to it at 24kbps but it reminds me a
bit o "Logon Rock Witch" from of course the RDJ album which
I heard today a bit. Got the same type of (pardon the
inference) quasi-cheesy organ tone and rattly metal
percussion, esp. second half. Ever consider maybe taking
that warped wav sound and chopping it up again in Cool Edit
or what not to repeat the more catchy snatches o' melody?
Might take you firmly out of the ol' "Experimental" category
but I find that's always a better place to be anyway, esp on
bloody mp3.commer. Know what I mean?

WAyout: This song really impressed me as is. I just bought
Proem, Jake Mandrell, Delarosa and asora, and I think your
music is just as good. For the first 1:30, I was about ready
to say that the warped voice melody sounds were good, but
kill all the percussion because they sucked. But in
hindsight, I see that the song was just kind of flickering
before erupting in flames of crazy sounds and excellent
percussion, especially at about 1:30. It sounds like you
used that "huge wav file" technique, like made a bunch of
different patterns that are all similar and faded them in
and out of eachother in random ways. It's really good the
way it is, kind of like casual doodles on paper, nothing
specific for too long, just kind of doing what it wants when
it wants. Very excellent. Also I like the volume level
changes.

wayout from a plastic bubble on 2001-08-28 03:06 [#00026406]

wow, thanks
heh, you pretty much described the technique i used too.
most of the "drill n bass" beats towards the end are the
preset drum loops that came with my program variated, mixed
and chopped up at random. your "big wav." technique sounds
pretty interesting and kinda reminds me a lot of what i've
been doing.
what proem did you get? i just got negativ a few days
ago...beautiful...but im not sure if i like it as much as
burn plate no.1. coincidentally i also got scott herren's
savath+savalas disc in the same order...(scott H. =
delarosa+asora)

m....M..Mw )wW(m M m)Ww( wM..M....m from a bird cage on 2001-08-29 00:55 [#00026775]

hagsjakdahgweqr: Thanks for that link, I'll have to check it
out. And that idea about cutting up a long wav sounds
interesting. (And thanks for listening.) I listened to 1024.
Hmmm... the best thing about it was the element of surprise.
I didn't expect those drums at all and they made it better.
The melody sounds pretty good, but the longer piece added on
top was sort of awkward. The drums weren't really all that
great, they tried to be intricate and complex, but can't
match some of the other people's luny songs these days in
that department. The whole song had a feeling that it was
made on a freeware software music making program. It was a
good I guess, not spectacular or particularly striking/ eye
catching (ear catching).

m....M..Mw )wW(m M m)Ww( wM..M....m from a bird cage on 2001-08-29 01:07 [#00026784]

Wayout: I have both of the proems you mentioned too. I just
found out about those artists I mentioned so I can't really
say whether it is good or not, because I havn't had a
thorough listen. But so far it is all great. I'm glad to
find you're the second person (after od) to tell me you
heard of and own these cd's. Where did you find out about
these? Don't you think they are undeservingly unpopular? It
took me forever to find out that these artists even exist. I
buy them all on forcedexposure.com. Where do you get them-
same spot? The one that I definately suggest most so far
from that fantastic site is Crunch's "1". Have you heard it?
It does some totally weird and extremely tediously
constructed stuff, one song makes a great sound like rice
crispies popping in each ear. It's the only album I've heard
to give autechre's lp5/ep7 some real competition. Here's a
list some other guy gave me (who suggested that site to me)
of albums I'm gradually buying one by one and finding I
really like them all:

crunch "1"
delarosa & asora "agony 1"
while "even"
proem "burn plate 1" negativ"
michael fakesch "marion
arovane "tides" "atol scrap"
jake mandell "parallel processes"
matmos "a chance to cut is a chance to cure"
syndrome
sense
tim tetlow
phonem

Do you have any other suggestions?
Later.

f.l.e.a from NZ on 2001-08-29 01:11 [#00026785]

genius, unparallel, superior!!!!
no but seriously..its quite cool..reminds me of that skuppy
song off RABIES whatsit with ogre's girlfiend du jour doing
vocal.s..damnit this lapsing mid term memory i gots...
BTW pretty good..I might tune in to a few more

wayout from a plastic bubble on 2001-08-29 01:39 [#00026796]

yeah, i agree that proem definately deserves more
recognition. i first heard of him on one of the warp forums
and bought "negativ" at the warpmart (which by the way is
very good, you should check it out) i came across burn plate
no.1 in the used electronic section at a local store..which
was very surprising.
as far as recomendations go...i would suggest:
gimmik- very much like proem..really lush melodic synths
over glitchy autechre-esque beats
prefuse73- same guy as delarosa+asora
reminds me a lot of dj shadow...only warpier (severely
chopped up vocals, some slightly glitchy beats)
chris clark- if youre a nig warp fan like myself you may
have already heard of him...if not definately check him
out.
he's kinda hard to describe...just really beautiful,
sometimes ominous electronic music, often has the same feel
as a lot of aphex's stuff or maybe µ-ziq's older stuff.
yee-king- sounds a bit like a mix between aphex +
squarepusher i guess
pretty good regardless
jega- you may already know him too,
i have too albums by him..the older one "spectrum" is a bit
more drill n bass oriented while the newer one "geometry"
has sort of a darker, glitchy electro sound
datach'i- really chopped up, glitchy drill n bass...seems to
have a sick sense of humor too.
some other artists i suggest but either cant or dont feel
like giving good descriptions of right now are:
lexaunculpt
bochum welt
boards of canada
brothomstates
jamie liddell
marumari
plastiq phantom
richard devine
plaid
two lone swordsmen
vladislav delay
monolake
cant think of anymore at the moment..hope this helps!

Well it seems like people are really raving about my music!
"Genius", I believe it was called. "Unparrallel", if I'm not
mistaken was also mentioned... And (if I remember right) I
think it was even called "superior". I know, I know, I mean
it's DAMN good but I'm a bit modest here. It's not THAT good
even though it IS really really good. Actually I agree.

f.l.e.a.: did you have a url-amajig?

m....M..Mw )wW(m M m)Ww( wM..M....m from a bird cage on 2001-08-30 23:55 [#00028010]

wayout: thanks, I'll add those that I didn't know (which
were quite a few) to my "stuff to check out when I get spare
time" list. (Well I'm so busy posting pointless messages on
this messageboard now- so much to do, so little time...) I
didn't know proem was on warp, that explains why a few
people have heard it. Seriously check out crunch's 1 though,
especially if you like autechre's lp5/ep7.

wayout from a plastic bubble on 2001-08-31 00:39 [#00028018]

yeah i've heard that crunch is pretty good..any suggestions
as to where to find it? i haven't seen it at the local store
or the warpmart. heh i also think its cool that they/he /she
is anonymous, musik aus strom claim to not even know who
they are...though i have heard speculation that its the guy
from funkstorung...

oh btw, proem isn't on warp, his label is merck i think, the
warpmart just sells negativ (along with many other non-warp
releases, you should check it out if you haven't already,
pretty reliable service too)

wayout: You can buy crunch's "1" at forcedexposure.com and
there's a little review but no sound samples. It really
good, potatoe chip crunchy sounds, rice crispies popping
right in your ear, weird panning effects to make it seem
like the sound is all wobbly or in some strange alien tone,
constant tweaking. He uses sound quality like melody in some
songs, constantly changing it, making the song turn
different colors. speaking of funkstorung, what is a good
album by them especially something organic/complex like lp5
ish?

I probably agree with your funny reviews most, e~e-()~e. It
does quite sound like elevator music now that I think about
it, good description. Thanks for listening, sorry about any
lingering unpleasantness in your parietal lobes. Do you have

f.l..e...a....
Please feel free to fill my message with any sort of
miscellaneous nonsense whatsoever, heh heh.
Your songs are good. They have a pretty rich sound
environment. Some songs sound like they could become really
great and chaotic from the first 20 seconds, but kind of
choke off from the limited sound pallette of this starting,
and keep repeating the sounds of the first 20 seconds. It
would be even better if it kept changing, but that would
take loads of disc space. From what I heard, libelogy and
dropkick fatality were my favorites and lungflood was the
least favorite because it was so obviously a measured
repetition.

saying "who the fuck was thatljafjow" was a good touch,

Evil Taxidentialist: You DO have great music, in my
worthless opinion, especially for only doing it for 5
months. I liked the cosmic joke and breakdancing, especially
the latter. It's a simple cut and paste, resembling symmetry
in nature's patterns, such as the pattern the worms make on
the sidewalk when the rain is over. A worm here, a worm
there in random places, but the symmetry comes from the fact
that they're all worms.

-------0

ID lab: Hey, good luck on that live gig. I've actually been
looking for your non-mp3.com site, since I liked your songs
phonetic energy and lobsters quite a lot. I don't find many
artists do stuff quite as zany and experimental as your
stuff. I listened to Bluescreen Histamine 2 1/2 times (the
half being right now)... I still don't know what I think of
it. It's approaching noise this time almost to merzbow level
(it is pretty random and almost lacks a linear structure)
but there's a mind at work, I think... The melodies are
remnants of deceased melodies and don't retain any of the
charm they once had if they ever did. The clicks and cheeps
are kind of a puzzle to figure out how it was constructed
and I like stuff like that (autechre). This is music that
isn't so obviously constructed on a tracker software program
as most people's are. I'm interested in any of your future
work (plus the others I havn't heard yet). Try
www.mp3.com/jbohn the song "walking on eggshells". I'm glad
you liked my song, well a "tune" technically since no one
sang... you get a marshmellow too.

goddisk- I was able to listen to 2001mp3, but my computer
can't play hi fi without pausing every second. From what I
heard, you have good quality sounds, they just arent very
original. Bass drums snare drums and reversed cymbols, and a
randomish bass melody. The construction is fairly
interesting, but isn't as good as other stuff, it probably
could use a faster tempo and some choppiness. It could use
something crazy and pointless like a "who the fuck was
thatlajf;ojw" sample, heh heh. (but I didn't hear the whole
song... and the pausing was a disadvantage to you in
obtaining your ultimate goal in life (as it should be like
everyone else's, naturally): getting a good review from me)
