Hey nice to see a new face around here! Well there are 2 or
3 main ways to make electronic music. You can use equipment
strictly, software on your computer strictly, or use both.
Using both would be your best bet in making the best most
diverse quality tunes. Now... you should let us know what
kind you want, and other info.

>:D

BAH! BAH BAH!

Otovoh on 2001-08-26 13:28 [#00025878]

I want to make drill and bass, mainly, or possibly BOC-style
ambient. So... equipment, how much would I expect to pay for
some cheap starter stuff? (bear in mind I live in the UK).

r3fl3x from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on 2001-08-26 13:30 [#00025880]

Hmm well starter stuff?... Amiebt beats... ? Hmm.. well I
have no idea.. it can be expensive as shit and it can be
cheap as shit if you know what I mean. Just check it out on
the net. Or places around where you live.

Otovoh on 2001-08-26 13:31 [#00025881]

Well I sort of need a guide, so I don't buy any shit. How
cheap could I go? Do you know any good sites?

r3fl3x from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on 2001-08-26 13:33 [#00025882]

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/

try that! thats where I got lots of my equipment.... dj fony
as well iam sure....

r3fl3x from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on 2001-08-26 13:33 [#00025883]

oh and how cheap do you want to go? DIRT Cheap?

Otovoh on 2001-08-26 13:35 [#00025884]

Put it this way: YES, FUCKING DIRT CHEAP. I have a head full
of ideas, but a pocket empty of cash.

r3fl3x from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on 2001-08-26 13:36 [#00025885]

Thats fine... Hm... well well.. maybe software would be the
way to go for now.... for you that is. I know that many
people have ripped off copies .. known as cracked appz. They
will give them to you for free.. or download for free. Ask
in this MB.. youll find it.

djfony -mike b- from helemano, hawaii -djfony.8m.com- on 2001-08-26 13:38 [#00025886]

Dirt ass cheap but you want an ambient BOC type sound eh?

hmmm..... gimme a sec......

r3fl3x from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on 2001-08-26 13:39 [#00025887]

dont worry.. hes putting it through the FONY MACHINE..
haha... just watch..

Otovoh on 2001-08-26 13:40 [#00025888]

I already have the software. Equipment is the way forward,
tho'.

Ellies from in your mouth on 2001-08-26 13:41 [#00025889]

get a job at a music store, that way you can buy it at
cost..and sometimes you can buy it even cheaper from the
companies themselves when you're at such places..and even
cheaper still is to steal it and then quit when you have all
you want.

Otovoh on 2001-08-26 13:43 [#00025890]

But seriously, where do I get equipment which will make
decent quality sound for the lowest price? I just want to
know how much I can expect to pay at minumum for decent
stuff.

Barrett, Syd from Toronto on 2001-08-26 13:45 [#00025891]

drill and bass has been done. and there's already a boards
of canada. don't need two.

do something more original.

djfony -mike b- from helemano, hawaii -djfony.8m.com- on 2001-08-26 13:47 [#00025894]

First of all software....
shouldnt cost you much... as a matter of fact shouldnt cost
you anything :)

Get these:
Sound Forge or Cool Edit (Pro or 2000)
-- to edit and record sound
ACID (2.0 OR 3.0)
-- for sequencing and arrangement of your sounds and
samples

now for the actual software soundmakers:
I dont know... gotta ask someone else about that...

HARDWARE!!:
Dirt cheap.... go to radio shack and get
1. a cheap keyboard... with some decent sounds on it
(roughly $50 US )
2. a cassette tape recorder... if you want that BOC sound
you gotta go for a tape deck! It adds that 'feel' to it

Now with your cheap'o keyboard plug it into the computer and
pound away.. then use sound forge or cool edit to mess with
the sound to make it to your liking.. then after you get
some stuff together sequence the song in ACID.

Once the track is complete... record it with the tape player
and play it back into the computer.

There you go :)

Otovoh on 2001-08-26 13:48 [#00025895]

7000? To get that sort of money I'd have to, like, work, and
stuff. I'm talking between £100 and £500.

djfony -mike b- from helemano, hawaii -djfony.8m.com- on 2001-08-26 13:49 [#00025896]

how much is that in US?

Otovoh on 2001-08-26 13:52 [#00025897]

DJfony:
£100 - £500

-translates to-

$144.30 - $721.50

r3fl3x from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on 2001-08-26 13:53 [#00025898]

7000 yeah I had to work like a madman for that... DJ Fony
just gave you your answer...

r3fl3x from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on 2001-08-26 13:54 [#00025899]

Otovoh: well then there you go.. go out and do what he said!
it will work well.

Otovoh on 2001-08-26 13:56 [#00025900]

A cheap keyboard could be good, not too sure about the tape
recorder, though.

djfony -mike b- from helemano, hawaii -djfony.8m.com- on 2001-08-26 13:57 [#00025901]

700 bones?!? Ill be right back........

r3fl3x from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on 2001-08-26 13:58 [#00025902]

*insert syntax to the FONY MACHINE*

djfony -mike b- from helemano, hawaii -djfony.8m.com- on 2001-08-26 14:02 [#00025904]

this is all you need

that and then save up a little bit of money for
this

Otovoh on 2001-08-26 14:10 [#00025905]

Actually, forget that, $599 is too much. I might just by the
cheapest keyboard money can buy.

I was browsing randomly and found this shitty thing for £59
(£72 with a MIDI lead). If I did buy something as cheap as
that, could I really make it sound decent by editing the
sound. If so - how?!

Otovoh on 2001-08-26 14:10 [#00025906]

http://www.casiokeyboards.co.uk/pages/4octave.html by the
way.

djfony -mike b- from helemano, hawaii -djfony.8m.com- on 2001-08-26 14:13 [#00025907]

that would work fine... but as far as editing goes....
anything goes, get it?

When you have filters anything is possible

r3fl3x from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on 2001-08-26 14:14 [#00025908]

Yup - Still waiting for someone to check my new topic and
sample my voice that I posted up. Check it YO
