Does it need to be portable?

sorry ... I can see how this really sucks. But why not just
go through a soundcard? Seems a laptop is the way to go.

what sort of mixer is it?

it has to be VERY portable. and more stable than a laptop
(we will use it as playback, so no crashes needed) not to
speak of price.
the mixer is my AWESOME Roland VM-3100 Pro.
I'm thinkin' bout one of those dj cd-players as second
option.
anyway, thanks alot.

actually .. but you probably already thought about this.

the newer range of sony g-protection discmans have an
optical out .. you won't be able to record, but if you just
need it for playback, that should do the trick nicely, and
probably cheaper than anything else?

media sonic's hd player has a digital output but it's mainly
for video and probably pretty expensive... (and not
that portable...)
