can't microsoft program a version that looks a bit more like IE for Windows (I do not mean the design/layout, i mean the way the browser shows table-backgrounds and text)

It's just the way the Mac displays things. Nothing to do with Microsoft (for once). Not sure how it looks on OS10 as I've used it on 9.

i have all systems on my office-mac... OS 9.0.4, 9.2.2, 10.1.5 and 10.2 ...and all looks crappy! ...it's just the way it shows tables

Try Mozilla. It works well for me on Windows and Linux. And unlike with IE, its programmers have no vested interest in deliberately making it work better on Windows than other platforms.
