well I'm a big fan of autechre,kid 606,matmos,oval ecc ecc
and I would like to compose some electronic music(i play
guitar)but I don't know where to start.......I have cubase
bt I HATE it.....what kind of gear do you suggest?
i don't have a lot of money but i'd like to buy a laptop or
something.......

Acid & sound forge, by sonic foundry are good too if you use
windows.

if you wanna do music, start off with the BASICS!!!! lol

get hold of eJay and work your way up

if you hate cubase, then sorry....pretty much all of the
professional sequencers are like that - cubase set the
standard back in the atari days

get used to it buddy

try an online language translator

don't get a laptop, because you can't upgrade them very
much

go for a tower system

Widnes, Cheshire is about 20 miles away from Liverpool, just
so you've got a little idea of where I am

but i've lived in Birmingham (central england) and Harlow,

ide suggest fruityloops, or reason. there both easy to use,
and can do everything you'll need.

no need to get into hardware yet.

also, if your gonna use fruityloops, get some decent vsti's.
absynth, fm7, pro53 are all very good.

reaktor is another good vsti, but has a steep learning
curve. you need to know allot about synthisis before you can
make any decent synths with it. (though it comes with a
whole bunch already to go)

A midi keyboard always comes in handy if you are running
something like Reason or any VSTi's especially Synths

Ive dabbled in VSTi, its good when you get the right bit of
software, but to get fluid riffs, you need a MIDI keyboard
or a keyboard with MIDI capabilites

I do all my stuff on Soundforge and Acid, i make up loops in
various software applications
