That happened with one of my JVC ones. I am sure it happens
then the drive goes that moves the lens up and down the
minidisc.

My solution was to steal another one :)

I had a sony MZ-r 70 and that was one of the worst crap
machines ive ever had.
I had this two year extra garantie so They had to fix it for
like 6 times before they finally gave me a new one.
So now I got the sony mz-n505 net md atrac3 mp3 wma and
wave recordable.
soooo nice!!!

Sorry dude, about 70% of people I know with portable MDs
have had problems with them. The antishock always seems to
stop working and after about 100 recharge the battery life
become laughable... Get an MP3 player- no moving parts =
good.

I thoght of getting an mp3 player for a while but the thing
is that you cant record on em. So the best and most flexible
machine is the one i got now.

are there any portable mp3 players with a record function?
that would be the shit.

You can get a portable mp3 player that holds 10GB of mp3 and
you can record on them too. You can also hook them up to
your PC for extra storage and upload anything you like to
it. Pretty cool but I can't remember what the model is.
Quite common now tho.

r: only thing about that sony i'm not sure about is whether
it also has a mac interface? I'm thinking there's bound to
be one sooner or later .. but yeah .. very nice machine

s/d: really? the ipod 20GB sounds quite cool, firewire etc.
if only it had a mic in - ... might hunt around

Yep, can't remember any model, but my mate had one. Not sure
of the frequency response though.

I want something portable to record with at a decent
quality. Shame portable DATs are so expensive...

The only bad thing about my Md is that it has a tendence to
record with very low volume. dont know if it has to do with
the mice im using but i hda no problem with that with the
last md I had.
Maybe I'll have to buy a more expensive miKe?

DAT also is a bit of a pain in that you have to ffw and rw -
the cool thing bout mp3/md players is that you can skip
straight to the bit you want.

16/44 would be sweet .. dat's 20 or 24 aye?

would need a good portable mic also ... anyone know any good
models? i remember having a look at some Shure ones, can't
remember the model tho.

Same problem here when I borrowed my mates one. I had to
turn the volume up really loud and there was loads of noise
in the background :(

spikey chea ..

160kbps .. a HD recorder is essentially what i'm after ..
something that records WAV.

HMM...that is not good at all. Had the same problem with
noise. I saw this special mic made just for the sony md but
it was to expensive for my thin wallet.
150 dollars or something like that.

a co-worker had a trick to use the net-md capabilities with
Linux. Something like mounting the device and writing
directly to memory. I'm not a linux afficionados but I can
tell you that you won't be able to load music on your net-md
if cannot convert it to Atrak format which is proprietary
(sp ?). I know that sony engineers encode the command they
send to the device from the computer so that reverse
engineering is hard to do... bastards.

I use a cheep goodmans mp3cd player. No record but with
700MB of mp3 per CD it suits me fine ^^ I'd get a MD player
but I have no need for the format atm. That portible HD
would be sweet.

Shame you can't write data to MD yet. or not that I know of.
Imagine mp3s playing from MD. ^^

same here...700mb is more than enough...I get around 150 HI
quality (no 128Kb shit) on one CD...

And at what, 50p, a disc, it's well cheap as well....even
cheaper with CD/RWs as you can rewrite em...
