less than 50 minutes from now, at 10:00 PM eastern standard
time, i'll be doing my weekly college radio show. you can
stream it online @ THIS LINK (CLICK).

it's split pretty evenly tonight. the first hour will be the
most aggressive electro songs i've ever played in a row/set
(eg: venetian snares, lesser, cex, lard, alec empire), the
second hour will be a "calming down" period w/ good
down-tempo music from the roots, j-live, autour de lucie,
neil young, air, boards of canada, etc. i'm not gonna be
talking till the aggressive songs are over, so it should be
a nice battery of hard tracks if you're interested.

feel free to listen. it streams thru windows media player,
not winamp.

if it was available to play through Winamp, I'd listen for
sure. bummer that it's wma format only

here you go

any version of WMP will work, i believe

the sound quality tends to be better over WMP but you're
right, more ppl have winamp.. personally i never listen to
audio through WMP, just watch videos. so i'm sympathetic.
however, there's nothing i can do about this...

i might take a listen anyhow, sounds like you'll have a lot
of great stuff playing the first half

rock, ill be there

so this is live right?

straight from the mixer into the computor, and streamed onto
the net?

if so, thats pretty fucking cool.

*what kind of software would you need to do this?

i bet it takes up a shit load of memory to run?

offline titsworth from Washington, DC (United States) on 2002-10-14 19:31 [#00403662]

i don't use any software, it's at a college radio station
studio. there are 3 cd players (one sucks tho) and 2
turntables and a mixer (which i'm not using tonight). it's
broadcast for about a 20 mile radius and online thru
warpradio.com (no relation to the label).

thats cool...

but i meant, what kind of software is required to turn the
music into the online stream...

oh... good question. i don't know offhand. there's
transmitter equipment but i'm not sure how that goes over
the net. warpradio.com might have some info about the
process.

cool

ill look into it

id imagine it would take a good amount of CPU power and
memory

it doesn't take much at all, Zeus. I've run stations off my
computer before several times. just check out
www.shoutcast.com or www.streamsicle.com

funny, I just finished my electronic music radio show at 10
pm eastern (8-10 mondays_. Unfortunately the Man shut us
down on the internet, I'm surprised you're still on there
with the huge fees. Stupid RIAA and Library of Congress.

offline titsworth from Washington, DC (United States) on 2002-10-14 20:35 [#00403694]

guess..

playlist after i finish :) dj shadow, lesser, squarepusher,
lard, alec empire, venetian snares, nin is the order so far

pigeon: is your show on a college radio? i'm pretty sure my
college isn't paying any fees

im at a loss...

My show's on a high school radio (and when I say that, ours
is a quality station, two time Michigan Association of
Broadcasters station of the year, 88.1fm the escape ) and I'm
pretty sure your station is paying fees. Either that or
they're going to get their asses sued by the RIAA because
Hilary Rosen is a bitch. We were on the internet
simulcasting for 3 years before this summer when the new
legislation was handed down.

it was the nin remix. i was hoping you'd guess an artist
popular here so people could be like "wow that remix was
amazing" but since it's nin who did it, it was just ok! :)
this doesn't apply to you, just some listeners of past shows
who claim the stuff i play is too mainstream.

Gahhh make it into a shoutcast station, it's a lot
easier...for me.

offline Zeus from San Francisco (United States) on 2002-10-14 20:44 [#00403705]

it was interesting for sure. i kind of expected it to be
someone undergroundish, but i couldnt pinpoint a style that
lead me to anyone in particular. in retrospect, it was
rather NINish... but just couldnt make the connection.

cool though.

hmmmm, you may be right. i'll look into it cos it's an
interesting topic. it's cool you're dj'ing in high school.
mine was a tiny school and didn't have a station. fuck the
RIAA though! how dare they bring legal action against
stations who are helping them SELL their precious albums?
reminds me of an onion article i read recently about the
RIAA charging radio stations per song cos they were pirating
copyrighted music that anyone with a radio could hear.

about having nothing to do with how it streamed, i was
obviously lying.
