I just got this and it's the first Squarepusher CD where I
thought 'Fuck, This is shite.' I'm downloading first next
time and try before I cry. I hope this album was out just to
fill a void before great men records things... *trys to wake
up* The live CD just made me shudder, very poor. *sticks a
squarepusher sticker on his monitor and sighs*

in a couple of months time i bet the board will be full of
"dyks is great!" topics ;-)

It's always the same... people didn't like druqks when it
came out and the board was all full of "druqks is crap!" And
now look... ;-)

I seem to remember quite some negative posts when geogaddi
just came out aswell...

I've never said what I did just now about a Squarepusher CD.
Track 1 - got it on vinyl, Track 4 - See the movie scum to
cover the talking, the rest of the track is shit hot but I
heard a live version of it a while ago so the edge is gone.
my fault. The rest of the CD I could make in my sleep, it's
hollow shit and I will never like it. When I first heard
drukqs I loved it, this SP CD is nothing. Live (live?!) CD =
dull pants.

I hope this was just to get Warp off his back. Love will
tear us apart is so... oh whatever. *places CD2 on his left
horn and spins it as he sighs* I'm not upset, I just feel so
empty..

I liked Drukqs from the start, and I think DYKS is a great
record!

I'm not being a dick but can I ask why you like it? Maybe
i'm missing something. Two good tracks i've had for a while
and the rest is crap IMO. CD2 is him playing tracks from go
plastic off his hard drive, groundbreaking...

well what don't you like about kill robok for instance? I
really don't think there's much difference between that
track and some of the better go plastic-tracks.

And i have to admit mutilation colony turns into crap after
about 3 minutes... but the first 3 minutes (the first 3.16
minutes to be precise)... well... i just cannot imagine
anyone listening to that and NOT finding it beautiful...
seriously.

I agree with you on the live-cd though, that is ridiculous

Kill Robok sounds like nothing new. It's not enough to stand
out. I could make a track like this but last time I did I
got laughed at for making 'shit noise'. It can only be ok
cuz it's SP but that don't cut it for me. It's hollow. :/
may be down to taste. Blips and echo, nothing great.

It's just empty. If the first track wasn't a vinyl I already
had, the second CD just wasnt there and it was sold for
£6-£8 i'd not be so upset. The design was the best part of
the album but stickers don't cost £12.

A live album of him doing something new and actully giving a
shit rather then taking the piss would be nice. I'd hate to
upset tom so i'm guessing this whole thing was a byebye warp
and look out for me on men. hate to piss fans off but I have
a lot of original SP CD's and vinyl and this one is the
first where i've gone 'Is he fucking taking the piss?'. He
may have more mad skilz then me but I also doubt he could
chin me IRL, a offer i'd hold open. me and SP in the ring...
bleh. It's all just wrong to me.

well... i don't really know what to say anymore :-) I
disagree with you, but i don't think it's possible to change
your opinion of the music... it's a matter of taste.

But as a fan, i have to say Tom is not pissing me off with
this release!

i do see where yopur coming from Spikee both with cd1 and
cd2 .....
for me Angtreom is stomping live anbd the cd1 version is
there "for completeness". I read a review that calls Ftrain
and those non'drill tracks "sonic poemscapes" or something,
and it that context... yes they work. Yer right about the
opening track being hold hat cos it was a single... but what
a single!

Now , the live stuff for me is old, yes... and not the
what-we-want-live... ie live bass, old tunes etc but i think
it has itàs own charm. On headphones, in the dark, when you
out yerself at the shown .. or put yerself as Tom at the
show, it soo works. The beginning of "boneville".. is
awsome, Angstron is perfect )better on the summers web
stream, though) ... my fucking sound is amazing... the way
he stretchs "iàm the fucking daddy".. the end of
"exploding.. " is class. Heàs havimng live fun using his
relatively new digital equipment... heàs not there to play
straight stuff or his back catalogue.. heàs Alive, for that
moment. Thats the Squarepusher, man!!.... out on his own. I
know what you mean but he dont!... thems the breaks!!!

As Spikee is offline, I'll have to try to fill them scaled
shoes.

No, dude, the live disk is just weak. If I wanted to listen
to Go Plastic from another room with japanese people
shouting along, i'd put it on on my stereo, go to another
room and play my copy of Iron Maiden's maiden japan
simultaneously. And wouldn't have to pay 20$ or something
for it.

The studio disc is almost OK. Providing you don't have
"Untitled" and are not tired of his endless edits, backflips
and filters . At some point it's all that there is and there
is no much music. But, actually, these glitch/ drill tracks
are quite decent.. However, Mutilation Colony (that 10
minutes long "ambient" piece) is just boring borinbg boring.
He has no fucken idea where to go with all those sounds, and
he just tries to impose some kind of narative on us. And his
cover of JD is OK, but hardly essential.

agree with you for the most part. still, the live cd blew me
away the first time i listened to it on headphones. pity it
is predictable. and the production sounds shite to me...

mutilation colony: the first 3 odd minutes are quite cool
(lacking in originality, though), the rest of the track
seems pretty pointless indeed.

still it's a lovely addition to the go plastic era- he'll
probably try new styles after this. at least we can't
complain there isn't enough of these go plastic-y cds :)

Hithere, Spikee.

NS: the first 3 minutes of Mutilation Colony (great name,
tho) are quite pointless to me too, but it could be passable
if he left it at that. No, he had to get into his "composer"
mode, which I respect but he is just not yet too good with
non-hierarchical composition. Or whatever they call it...

listing for the japanese version of dyks. the bonus track
for "go plastic" was "hardcore obelisk." I got a little

warp cd's are expensive in stores and on warpmart cos they
have to make up for all the people who don't actually buy
the cd's.. if you want to complain to anyone, complain to
the "pirates"

i like the ep, not groundbreaking but not bad either. i
like all of the tracks except astromm feck 4 which i dont
like too much. the main melody sounds like a newer version
of 80s video game music.

agree with you almost 100%..the only tracks that do anything
for me areUntitled..ofcoarse..but that is well
established...F-Train---just because I am in a Click Hop
kinda Mood and this sounds like a SP doing
Funkstorung/Prefuse73..not great but with offerings here it
stands out....Kill Robok is better...not quite as
directionless as the ambient tracks..

but that's about it..This is coming from someonewho's dug
just about each and every track on each and every SP
release...
