not at all? that's kinda what i was implying with my
question... do you mind being misunderstood? personally i
mind. it's not cool at all really. why bother to think, say,
or feel anything if your intention isn't going to be
understood?

if people communicated more clearly with one another, it
would be easier - some people just have a certain inability
to verbalise.

you have a point there, but i mean if a group of people
misunderstand me it bothers me, yes
but if just couple of individuals dont get my point, i dont
really bother
i hope it makes sense hehe

yea it makes sense.. basically you're saying that you don't
have the time or motivation to make one or two people
understand, but for a larger group you'd compromise

the topic is about people 1) admitting they don't really
enjoy people not understanding them or 2) confirming that
they really don't care if they are understood or not and/or
3) expressing their thoughts on being misunderstood
generally

being misunderstood in and of itself i don't find that
annoying. perhaps occasionally.

its only when misunderstandings have ramifications that they
become annoying or something ?

I've been desensitized to it. I don't relate to anybody, and
I go out of my way to be inpenetrable to people. Nobody I
know, bar one or two, has any idea what I'm like, the only
way they could describe me is ''er... quiet''... no fucking
clue. I don't even understand myself... I love it and I'm
deliberately difficult, but I hate it and it drives me
insane. Ah well. *jerks off

i know what you mean, but do you have any idea why you "get
off" (so to speak) on being hard for others to understand?

Not a clue... I've just always seemed to be ''odd'', and now
I'm so used to it that I just expect it, so I just go with
it. I dislike 99.999% of the population, and I kind of go
out of my way to seperate myself from them... I kind of
''get off'' on being out of the ordinary.

Of course I get a lot of shit for this, but it's gotten
easier over the years because everyone knows that I want
nothing to do with them... like I used to be nagged by my
mom to go out and do shit, but not anymore...

Overall, it can't be pleasant, cuz I'm not Mr. Happy.

No one gets my jokes they think I'm weird and I'm the bloke
at work who always gets told to "lay off the crack".

Well actually no they laugh at my jokes most of the time
what am I talking about.

i know what you mean about ppl not getting jokes.. seems
like all the ones i tell are over people's heads, either cos
of the concept or cos of the references.. and it sucks cos i
don't do that on purpose. i always tell jokes hoping and
assuming ppl will get them and i usually have to explain
them... really takes the humor out of it.

i agree it's NOT satisfying to be misunderstood.....but i
wonder if we ever really are understood completely by
anyone?

to those who are important to us, friends, families,
lovers.....it is perhaps a need and desire to be
understood....to know that someone knows what it's like to
be in our shoes......

true...I'd be kinda worried if I was understoof
completely...people just ain't that simple, thankfully....

I always think Michael Franti of DHH put it nicely with
these lyrics...

"And I'd tell you that I'm suffering
from the worst tyoe of loneliness
The loneliness of being misunderstood
or more poignantly
the loneliness of being afraid
to allow myself to be understood"

damn, that guy rocks my world...

ehhehe

we are all complex, wonderful creatures.....aren't we!

sometimes what we want people to understand about us.....is
something that we want to believe about ourselves that may
or maynot be true. but we're too close to it to see the
difference......interesting thought to ponder......

tits:

as LeC pointed out "if we ever really are understood
completely by
anyone? "

I don't think we can, so its just a matter of degree i guess
.. there is no way to "KNOW" - its the
implications/ramifications to me that are unpleasant ..

although i probably don't understand "THEM" .. ?

basically i'm just wondering if the people here who claim
they don't mind or like it when "normal people" can't/don't
understand them TRULY feel unsatisfied with not being
understood. i mean, isn't it just human nature to want to be
understood? and as i asked earlier, why say or do anything
if your intentions aren't going to be understood?

i don't mean art being understood by everybody (eg: a film
should have universal appeal), but in individual
interactions

perhaps you only dislike them cos they don't understand you?
bit of an awful cycle there.

offline korben dallas from nz on 2002-10-14 00:53 [#00402981]
Points: 4605 Status: Regular

well true .. but from a pragmatic point of view, you don't
have to be fully understood to satisfy your intensions or
something.

i mean, i see what you're getting, at. i used to get quite
pissed/unsatisfied at people who didn't/couldn't and didn't
want to understand me .. especially the latter.

but there will always be things that people
misunderstand/don't understand -

perhaps i've more been desensetised than anything else?
mmm..

So- what brings about this question? something buggin ya? :)

I hate being misunderstood. My boss always seems to
misunderstand me. Here's an example: last week he came into
my office. I asked him to pass my pen and he proceeded to
sodomise me while shouting out his mother's name. This was
not the first occasion he has done such a thing. Why does he
always misundertand me this way?

''basically i'm just wondering if the people here who claim

I DO mind it, but then again I tend to hate the entire
population and they're going to misunderstand me anyway...
even if I WANTED to, I couldn't fit in... and I don't want
to... I'm doomed to be misunderstood. It has its advantages
(I really do enjoy only my OWN company) and its
disadvantages... because society isn't built for loners like
me, it FORCES you to go and be with people.

One thing I don't understand is people that always seem to
need other people around them... I don't get it. And always
complain to be bored or something... I get bored around
people, but in my own company, I NEVER get bored, ever. Too
much music/books/movies/sites/games/etc to stimulate my
brain, and nobody around to fuck up and annoy me.
